why wouldn't you split the notes manually?
why not enter them manually instead of using a keyboard to do so?
if you're not a keyboard player and you don't want to split complex sequences it's all pointless.
think of the thousands of key presses involved in a performance spread across 8 or more voices. or what about when you need to split notes without overlaps but want specific properties like retrigger of the same note/voice pairings (as in a piano) yet still want to limit the number of voices so choose to steal only the oldest and released (thus, lowest level) voices when required?
this is all exactly the same topic it just takes into account the complexities that go beyond simple manually entered chords.
brain surgery: we have block of wood, we have head. we have large blade. chop chop, all done.
the process can actually be 100% automatic if you use a guillotine. i mean, a application which splits the midi part from a single file and spits out a single audio clip by doing all allocation and recording based upon a single button press.

OK. I think I got it.
So, if you were a piano/keyboard player playing a lot of complex chords through your midi keyboard, you could then use Xhip to split the notes in to separate midi channels. Then, one by one you could send the midi to a monophonic synth to record the notes individually.
I do see how this would be useful if you are were recording very complex piano parts now!
Actually, this would have been useful recently when I got my Roland SH-2 to play the Bouree by Bach. I just manually split up the two voices, but I could have used Xhip to do that.

keep in mind xhip is the synthesizer and what i'm using here is the note-logic or voice-allocator plugin. xhip can't do this. although i could make it output midi if i wanted to i suppose. it would be sort of annoying when using it as an instrument because you'd get a lot of extra event blocks if you didn't need them.
