If you have a question just ask. Sorry did not reread the whole topic cause i'm indeed quite focused on m7 r&d, but just a draft reply already:

Thanks Jo
When the patch is reloaded the values are randomized again of course
Thats part of the problem though, the sound is always the same when re-loaded, not randomised.
I can live with it, its just a case of hitting the magic button anyway.

Ok had a 2nd look. Indeed the Note To Modulation Converter starts with value 0 at the random output and it only randomizes this upon every new note-on event. Should that random output also be random even from the start ie. even before the first note-on? Maybe the answer indeed is yes because random means random and starting with zero is not random. What do you and others think? And would changing it not 'break' previously made patches? For me it's ok to change it thus already start with a random, sounds more logical.

Post

Yes that would be better in general, although I dont think it will help my patch in this instance as I want to save the randomised parameters so they re-load in the same state as when saved.

I understand, yes that's what i meant with my first reply.

I have uploaded a slightly revised version with more varied waveforms and I have to say it can come up with some fantastic sounds, not always 'musical' and not necessarily through anything I have intentionally done.
I'll leave it as is for now but I may try to make another thats a bit more musically useful though.
I have lost an hour or two just hitting that magic button. Its just a pity they cant be saved but that makes it even more special :D

To save a patch, could we simply remove the 3 modules:
Monophonic Note Tracker
Note Key/Vel Filter(1)
Rand-O-Matic

and then put a link from Event Input 1 to each input the Rand-O-Matic feeds?

Would that essentially remove the whole randomisation feature?

Post

Could those modules be disabled/enabled by the patch itself - i.e. only enabled when the Randomise button is clicked? Or is that feedback... hm, yes.

No synth has made me laugh as much as this series. Each version is funnier than the one before. It totally fits the MuTools motto of 'Enjoy Making Music.' It's so 2015 to save patches. I like living in Rand-O-Land. The only missing feature is a one-button Record, so when I find a particularly outlandish patch I can do-or-die grab that moment which will never ever exist again in the entire universe of music (and anti-music)

I think bibz1st made a wonderfully creative patch.
It can make very useful bleeps and so it proves that randomizing parameters can make sense.
I've added special support in M7 for randomizing a set of parameters, also VST parameters.
The randomized parameter values will be saved and reloaded as expected.

Awesome!! Thanks Jo :tu:

One thing, will it work with Mu-Devices? Perhaps if loaded into a slot?

Post

:o wow, Joe, great to hear, so the great work from bibz1st will make it into M7, really great hearing this and looking for M7 and funny randomizing :D

It will work with any module/VST. More details when M7 is available.

Just to explain,
Note key/Vel Filter and RandOmatic only ensure that randomisations only happen when key G9 is pressed,
the random part happens because of the Note To Modulation Converter+Parameter Event Generator combination, on each parameter that is being affected.
EDIT
Sorry I meant the Note to Mod Converter not Mod Mapper
