Random preset generator, preset morpher in rack/mux, any ideas ?

Hi,
I think I could just ask: last days I was looking (again) for something too generate some random (should be not totally random but controllable in some way) or, better, kind of preset/sound morpher just to get something "inbetween" two vst presets from the general idea.
Of course the more generally useable (for as much vst instruments as possible) the better, so I think I just aks if there is something in that direction already exisiting as mux/rack/function ?
Or any idea how to build something in that direction ? Examples too maybe better explain what I mean are the mutate function in Absynth or the VST Preset generator (which only works totally random and does not morph between presets and only for 32 bit) or a random function in minihost (only for 32 bit too). I think in reason something in this direction is possible too, skannerxt seems too work that way for example (have never tested).
Any ideas really appreciated

Well its not what you want but it got me thinking maybe its possible to do some kind of randomisation thing so have a look at the attached, its just a slight mod of the Basic Synth but with a little effort maybe something more can come of it
Havent got it to show the changes on the front panel yet though.

Hi bibz1st,
wow, from the look and general behaviour it is really what I was looking for
.
And it brings some useable sounds if you try enough
On what does it work at the moment ? Would of course be great if you could decide on what parameters randomisation works and "how much" (percentag ?).
And if it could work on other vst instruments too (so it must be something "separate" I think to include it in a rack as function for/on different vst).
If that could work would be really great. I would imagine a rack with lets say two vst instruments and the randomizer as separate function which could be used on one, or both or at any point in the rack where you could imagine. Dont know if this is possible at all.
So if you think it would be worth it would be really appreciated
But maybe see if anybody else interested or just me getting some weird ideas

If you open up the patch you will see I didnt have to add too much for it to work, its the modulation mapper that makes it happen. You could quite easily replicate it in other more complicated patches.
unfortunately it probably has to be done for each individual mux patch as they could have any number of different modules within. Im willing to be proved wrong though.
Something 'might' be able to be done for Musynth and other fixed architecture vst's but it will take someone cleverer than me to achieve it

Great update, and even if it is not directcly applicable on other synth but at last a great tool to tryout different things and getting ideas for the Musynth !
Trying out and hear AND sea whats happening with the randomsets, really nice !
Really appreciate your work, thanks a lot

No problemo, glad you like it.
it can give some interesting results that can then be manually tweaked to taste.
I tamed the more extreme randomisations by trial and error and Im actually quite proud of it really
By changing the Oscillators to MFO's opens up a nice way of adding some drastically different 'randomisable' waveforms

Argh!! while this patch seems to work quite well whilst playing it 'live' but frustratingly there seems to be some reason that saved sounds dont seem to reload properly, can anyone tell me why ?

Under what circumstances? I just tried saving to a new user patch, then reverting to the original and that worked. Randomised around a bit more (wow, this is fun), then reloaded the saved one and it loaded okay. Do you mean on project load?

No it was doing what you are doing, randomize, save as new patch, close, re-open and for some reason the oscillator waveforms kept defaulting back to sine waves.
I had been tinkering under the hood a bit more so maybe I disturbed a setting, at least I know now then that it should work correctly so I'll tinker a bit more and fix it.
Thanks for trying it.

@pljones
which version did you try ?
EDIT
the latest version is available here
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BzHug ... jVzcGZNZzQ
I have a feeling that the newest version can only really be used 'per session' as I still cant make it recall all settings including the front panel, when re-loading a previously saved patch.
The good news is this version gives much better results IMHO

I grabbed the one from your Feb 1 message.
Using the MFOs is very nice... some very TV 80s Sci Fi sounds.

HaHa yea it does seem to want to make dr who's soundtrack, does it quite well too.
I did try to tame the lfo's so it would make more musical noises and in the latest version have added on/ off buttons.
Still havent managed to get it to re-load properly though, I'm sure I remember Jo saying something about the way modulation is added it wont update the knobs/ sliders, dont want to bother him with it as he's busy with m7.

Hey bibz1st, congrats on that randomizer patch, wow nice creative thinking
If you have a question just ask. Sorry did not reread the whole topic cause i'm indeed quite focused on m7 r&d, but just a draft reply already: When the patch is reloaded the values are randomized again of course, there indeed is no way to "freeze" the randomization. (except of sampling the audio)
