Its a $50 upgrade fee from T7 to the cheapest version of Waveform. From dBRowAudio's post earlier, it would appear that Collective is included with that (though obviously you dont have to use it) which hadn't actually been obvious to me.jabe wrote:Mike_GTR wrote:I currently am using a licensed installation of T7. Well, I first downloaded the bundle but found the install too unwieldy. I hate installers and rather take them apart (7-zip) myself.
Since I'm only demoing Waveform atm. I downloaded the Waveform installer-only and that worked fine
So I do not try Collective if that isn't in a separate (tiny) download!
@DRow: when announcing the next WF release will you please mention the 'point number'?

No, you can't upgrade for free, it's a commercial product that you purchase. The purchase prices are on the website. An upgrade from T7 to Waveform will cost $50, whether you're interested in Collective or not.Mike_GTR wrote:I currently am using a licensed installation of T7. Why then do they post a 20 Mb installer that excludes all of the other components? I completely understand an upgrade price if it includes Collective, Biotek, etc., but a version that only adds the mixer section for $50 is crazy.

Well, even though it was kinda hidden, I presume it was for folk like me who dont actually want or need the other components?Mike_GTR wrote:Why then do they post a 20 Mb installer that excludes all of the other components?
But you've already been told twice that the $50 upgrade does include Collective.I completely understand an upgrade price if it includes Collective, Biotek, etc., but a version that only adds the mixer section for $50 is crazy.
Notwithstanding the fact that it also includes new features for MIDI generation/editing, which are mentioned on the the product page, as 'Composition Tools,' before the Modular Mixer is.

Completely understood. The version with Collective, Biotek, the composition tools, etc. is a MAJOR upgrade and for those interested in those components is a great deal. I was just curious as to the small installer with only the mixer section (as far as I can tell) as additional features. If I hadn't licensed T7 asking for Waveform free would also be crazy but IMO they should make one option to be able to do a free upgrade to Waveform with only the 20 Mb installer features.

There are videos from NAMM that have been on YouTube for the last 10 weeks and these explain what you get. Many of us have watched them several times. The basic $50 upgrade gets you the new Waveform, plus Collective, plus Master Mix (formerly not free), plus a synth (also formerly not free). The change to Waveform isn't just the addition of a mixer.Mike_GTR wrote:Why then do they post a 20 Mb installer that excludes all of the other components? There is a 20MB installer because there will be updates to Waveform that won't require users to download Collective and its samples all over again. Ideally there'll be individual downloads for everything eventually, but part of the trial offer is that users get to use everything (including BioTek and the DAW Essential Plug-ins) for free for 30 days.
The upgrade price was the same for four years before this.

Free upgrade is for T7 customers who purchased a licence in the last month or so (like myself... haven't had to pay anything). It's not obvious from the website, but it was mentioned in the email from Tracktion announcing Waveform availability.chico.co.uk wrote:No, you can't upgrade for free, it's a commercial product that you purchase. No, the small installer is just Waveform; the installer for the Waveform DAW and nothing else.Mike_GTR wrote:Completely understood. There is no version with only the new mixer; like I said, the changes to Waveform includes the new mixer and the new midi Composition Tools; they're both new features of the Waveform DAW, and the cheapest upgrade path is the $50 upgrade for that.
On top of those features of the DAW, they also give you a license for the Collective plugn, no matter which version you buy, or download. Its effectively free, you get it with the Waveform DAW, though you can avoid installing it if you use the Waveform-only installer.

Wow.
If you got your T7 upgrade after Jan 19th you get a free upgrade to Waveform. Otherwise, it's a business they're running. They wouldn't last long if they gave free upgrades every year and we'd be back in the Mackie purgatory of unsupported software that looked dead and buried for years.

I think you're a bit confused as to what features come with Waveform. No matter what size download you instigate, if you install Waveform you will get:Mike_GTR wrote:Completely understood. • New MIDI musicality tools (including bassline, chord, arp and melody generators and a new Chord Player plugin)
• An enhanced MIDI editor (with lots of new tools and workflows for easier, quicker editing)
• Dedicated MIDI editor (with things like multiple clip editing, audio waveform backgrounds etc.)
• MPE support
• The new vertical mixer (including as a panel in the Edit screen or a dedicated tab with arrange overview etc.)
• Master Mix and FM Synth plugins now available as internal plugins with no separate purchase, download or authorisation required
• Twice the number or track and clip colours (now up to 18)
• New colour schemes
• Optimised UI and improved audio engine
• Improved plugin crash recovery
• Lots of misc tweaks and bug fixes
Additionally, along with every Waveform purchase you get Collective which is a powerful instrument and includes a wide ranging ~570 presets.
That's all for $50 upgrade, $100 new.
You can also purchase either:
• "Waveform+ Bundle" which includes all the above plus our DAW Essentials suite of 16 plugin effects.
• "Waveform Ultimate Bundle" which includes all the above plus BioTek
So even the base version, even if you won't use Collective, still has a large number of new features.

Yes, within the grace period, like most companies allow around this kind of thing. I'm pretty sure that's not what Mike's talking about.fix3r wrote:Free upgrade is for T7 customers who purchased a licence in the last month or so (like myself... haven't had to pay anything).
