Surely subribbit would be more apt.

And all this over a 20 euro update fee

I feel more confused than ever after reading this thread. Either keep version 1 and save the money, or update for 20 EUR. Considering what functions and features that are new in version 2 I would argue that 20 EUR for the update is more than fair. There is no free lunch

In all fairness I didn't see the actual conversation with Uhe support but I strongly doubt that they treated you unfairly unless you let loose the canons on them first. Based on the wording in the original post in this thread I would say that it's not unlikely that's what happened.

@ NotsoHappyFrog
Hardware doesn't magically get new features. Neither does software.

For the new features 20 euro is an absolute steal.
I bought the full package for these features.

@OP. If you get freeware, there are no guarantees of any kind that come with it. The entity creating the freeware is well within their rights to switch it to a paid product if they want to. It's your choice if you want to stay on freeware or pay for new version of software. That's how it works I am afraid.

Depends what kind of hardware. Kurzweil's workstations are known for getting pretty major OS upgrades with a bunch of new features, all for free. Similar thing happened with Korg Kronos.

Of course, considering the price of admission in order to own one of those units, you could argue that it's par for course. But just sayin'

.. and sometimes it's a win/win situation. If something has potential to get better and better it means the developer can keep selling the product as each update will get people raving on a forum and recommending the product to their peers.

I think Vengeance Sound is doing this business model with Avenger extremely successfully. It already feels like an absolutely amazing purchase.

Same with Spectrasonics Omnisphere.

Neither of these products were cheap or budget to begin with though.

It's even more crazy to complain about the upgrade price, considering Hive 1 users got wavetable support + 400 presets with update 1.2 for free, something other companies would totally charge for.

One extra kind developer designed a sweet deep crunchy Bass patch and named it after my childhood dog companion. Urs has stood on some holier shoebox. Preaching fairness and never offering students discount but “celebrity” producers free. I ask support politely why this change and actually making me pay more because uhe prided itself on first in costumers. Some new guy in support just ripped into me from the very start of his email. No developers companies ever went to great lengths to make me feel so disgusting for wonder what’s up. I was about to buy the upgrade sure no worries. Just felt like asking if it’s true I loyal would pay more cause urs had some policy I’d remembered he used to go on about. So no upgrade for me simply because his support guy was a f**king asshole. Worst experience with customer support in any industry soft synth, hospitality, restaurants etc... ever. Unreal to be so nasty. They will get nothing from me. I help other people freely with electronic music advice and productions of their songs. It’s wack now I’m gonna go out of my way to tell people stay the f**k away from u-he. Weirdest customer support ever.
