Could you make an Xpander emulation??2020-02-21T23:00:03+00:00I think this would totally fit into the U-he Lineup, and it would also be the best freakin thing ever, well apart from Zebra3 :hihi:
Would this be possible or is it too complex??
The Oberheim xpander is incredible, i'm thinking our computers are READY in this day and age for such a beast of an emulation, and if it was done with the accuracy of Repro you could easily charge a premium for it.
So you up for the challenge?
Here's a manual with some schematics in not so great quality.

I think its better to emulate something which hasn't much overlaps with the existing products.
Maybe a Super Stringmachine vst which sounds like the original hardware in the 70ies. Most vsts I knows doesn't sound really like the original hardware Stringmachines and doesn't give THAT feeling from sound. I think u-he are able to do such thing. Maybe with a switch you can choose different models like Solina, Roland RS 505 and so on....and a FX battery in the chain like smallstone phaser and co.
As far as emulations go, I'll be honest: Then little things we did in Hive, such as "different envelope per voice" (neat trick in ShapeSeq section), extensive modifiers for each slot of the ModMatrix... these things excite me much more than "how spot on an emulation" is. I'd be more interested in something that has brutally good filters not ever built into vintage synths, paired with clever and modern possibilities. Hmmm, like Z3.
I wouldn't mind a museum project - Cats'n'stuff - but that's something I'd need to pass on to junior developers we might hire later on.
