Could you make an Xpander emulation??

I think this would totally fit into the U-he Lineup, and it would also be the best freakin thing ever, well apart from Zebra3 :hihi:

Would this be possible or is it too complex??

The Oberheim xpander is incredible, i'm thinking our computers are READY in this day and age for such a beast of an emulation, and if it was done with the accuracy of Repro you could easily charge a premium for it.

So you up for the challenge?

Here's a manual with some schematics in not so great quality.

I suggested a Matrix 12 emulation a while back and that was shot down.

Nothing official though, mostly just by the usual naysayers.

It could just be too complicated to pull off.

Wouldn't be too complicated at all, but the key problem is time. You see how long it takes to finish up Uhbik - we don't even have a beta after half a year of public alphas. Plus, Zebra3 - not even remotely alpha yet - takes precedence over new developments.

Thing is though, I'd much rather transcend features similar to Xpander/Matrix in subsequent versions of Diva. I'm not sure if we need more analogue emulations in our portfolio; I think we should rather get more diverse while at the same time improving the existing lineup.

Hans and I talked about something like that a few years ago, but the conclusion was that it doesn't make much sense. I'm simply not keen on training and baby-sitting half a dozen more developers and wasting my own talent in a purely management position. I also don't want to sell out or hire boss-type staff as I'm too much of a diva myself to work my ass off for someone else's ideas or rule set.

The Cat, The Cat, The Cat! :)

Post

It would be an unpopular opinion, but I think it's worth considering just saying no to the Cat and instead making future changes to Diva to make it sound more like a Voyetra 8* (because we saw what happened with the Pro One emu).

We all like shiny new things, but if the market research says new Diva modules are a better use of time, the only argument against that is which thing makes people most inspired in the U-He office.

*and an Xpander...and a CS-80 and...etc etc....

Is it time for AI yet? Maybe instead, you could develop an AI developer and teach it Ohm's law!
This tech is pretty accessible too, as there's a number of open source projects. Though, I honestly haven't a clue just yet. Nonetheless, all you need is a desktop with a GPU to get started.

It's great to hear this in a world bent on endless, unsustainable growth. You love making things and don't want to get so big that you no longer have your hands in the real work.

i would love to see more oscillator and filter choices in diva. maybe even include the repro modules? say, only for repro users so the repro itself doesnt get redundant. if that didnt mean too much work, that could be a way of introducing new analog emulati9ns: you buy, say, a oberheim xpander plugin from u-he and if youre a diva user, the oberheim modules are unlocked in diva.

Sounds like you have some great ideas for future versions for Diva
