First thing I learned from my first proper guitar teacher was a piece called "Romance" from a movie I haven't seen up until this day:

(all the time I thought it were quite some other Forbidden Games they were playing)

No mention yet of Dick Dale's rendition of Misirlou? It featured in Tarantino's Pulp Fiction

Well that certainly takes one back. That's a piece that I was playing recently as I was going through old sheet music during the lockdown although for some reason I didn't think back to Forbidden Games which I'd seen at some art house many years ago.

IIRC the piece is of unknown origin and was played by Narciso Yepes whose record company took advantage of the film's success to help promote his career.

Equinox - the 1992 movie featuring Matthew Modine and Lara Flynn Boyle features some excellent guitar from Terje Rypdal who features on 7 tracks in the movie although only 3 made it to the Soundtrack CD.

Both the soundtrack and the movie itself are difficult to find right now. Hopefully this will change in the future.

That's right

Rest of the wiki article is worth a read as well.

Let's hope so. I don't recall seeing that film but am familiar with many of his ECM recordings, especially the ones he did with Jan Garbarek. And what's the point of issuing a soundtrack cd that's missing so much of the music?

The soundtrack featured other artists - Astor Piazzolla, Ali Farka Toure, Archie Shepp, Dollar Brand, Ivo Papasov, Reah Sadowsky, David Darling. It is a most enjoyable and diverse collection, and the omissions aren't an issue due to the quality of the inclusions.

I seem to remember that the film got a bit of a panning from the critics upon release, but I thought it was a reasonable production. Unfortunately I had it on VHS, and got rid of a lot of movies during a house move some time ago, so I haven't watched it for almost 20 years.

Oh, I see. In my way of looking at things critics should never pan a film with an interesting soundtrack.

And regarding the consequences of getting rid of old media, I think we all have some items that for some reason seem difficult to find that we wish we still owned.

A harmless conga. This was in the days when Daleks had not learned how to negotiate staircases.

One of the great soundtracks of all time.

He also did the music for these films:

· The Long Riders (1980)
· Music From Alamo Bay (1985)
· Paris, Texas (1985)
· Blue City (1986)
· Crossroads (1986)
· Johnny Handsome (1989)
· Trespass (1993)
