I thought a lot about the two vs one wide question. Having never used such a wide screen before I was not sure. I already had two though (31" and 27"), so I knew what that was like. With the two monitors I always ended up with making the 31" the main working screen and positioned it at the center of my desk with the 27" off to the side. So for me the question was: Do I get another 27" and have it on the other side, or step into the unknown and try an ultra wide screen? And I ended up with the 49" ultrawide as my main centered screen and just one - the 31" - off to the side (I have a big desk).
I've been working like this for just over a week now. It took a few days to get used to, but now I'm really happy with it. I use bitwig in the dual display arranger/mixer combination on the wide screen in a 60%:40% ratio. I experimented with using the three panel display (with the 3rd panel on the side monitor), but it was too much for how I work, so the 2nd monitor gets used for email and web browser etc.
In my day job I'm a visual effects artist which involves a lot of coding and I'm finding the wide screen very comfortable for being able to freely arrange different editor widows side by side without the annoyance of the bezel messing up my view.
The one thing I would add is that I wish the vertical size of the 49" monitor was the same as my 31" monitor. The 49" is 5120x1440 and the 31" is 2560x1440, but the 49" is only 34cm tall vs 40cm on the 31". I'm amazed the difference that 6cm makes to the perception of the screen size and how big text looks.
Another thing that surprised me is that even with the DisplayFusionPro app, full-screen video (eg youtube or netflix) is not able to be constrained to a virtual monitor. Not sure why that is not possible. I have not tried other virtual screen managers, but I suspect they are the same in this regard. Since bitwig and the remote desktop software I use for work both have borderless modes I can easily fit them to the DisplayFusionPro split monitor regions, so that works fine. But it would have been nice to be able to do the same with movies on netflix.

Yeah, mismatched screen sizes are much more annoying than you think it's going to be...
The 49" sounds good though, better than 2 x 27" with same resolution. Just much more expensive if you crack a screen for any reason!

I find putting my 2nd monitor on top of my primarily is best. Makes mismatched screen sizes less of an issue and is also the only configuration to allow me to position my speakers optimally . Plus I find it easier to quickly look up than to turn my neck left/right. I would definitely try this if your primarily is a superwide.

I have seen a few vloggers with a stacked arrangement. And you are right about speaker placement. Mine now have to be slightly higher than optimal to clear the side monitor. In my case though, I thought about stacking, but I wear glasses and looking up or down comes with its own problems with regard to focusing. I have a swivel chair, so I try to use that more than my neck to avoid neck pain. Early days though. I may reconsider.
