Good options for Spectral Delays

I'm specifically interested in Spectral Delays only (delay taps differentiated according to each frequency) in this case. The best one I have is probably a patch for Max/MSP called "jg.spectdelay" (by John Gibson).

Thanks for the pointer, this one is fft based, which is a different approach than just having filtered frequency bands delayed. I bet the latter can be easily achieved in Byome for three bands. The weird stuff needs more bands…

Yes, absolutely, FFT is necessary, for a true Spectral Delay. Melda's MSpectral Delay is also FFT-based (I strongly suggest to use it in Edit mode, of course) and it's the second best one I have. The best choice, if you don't want to download the gigantic Max/MSP for any reason. I still prefer this jg.spectraldelay Max/MSP patch, though, especially when used directly on its "Max help" dedicated window. Intuitive UI and very musical results (at least, for my needs), much better, for my taste.Tj Shredder wrote: Mon Sep 13, 2021 1:52 pm Thanks for the pointer, this one is fft based, which is a different approach than just having filtered frequency bands delayed. i have a boxed version that is unregisteredAh_Dziz wrote: Mon Sep 13, 2021 7:46 am I dunno If NI would still do a transfer for an old SD license, but it still runs smoothly on my system. Someone might be willing to sell their license though.
bought 2 of them some years ago, installed one...worked perfect on windows 10 in flstudio .

You could probably sell that pretty easily and for a good price. I dunno if they still will register it And activate it after their whole (dropping support of old products) debacle.robindrieghe wrote: Thu Sep 16, 2021 8:31 pmi have a boxed version that is unregisteredAh_Dziz wrote: Mon Sep 13, 2021 7:46 am I dunno If NI would still do a transfer for an old SD license, but it still runs smoothly on my system. Just updating to correct this - it seems, although this is still a paid update, that they still allow it at the reduced rate at least, so they must have realised that was unfairaMUSEd wrote: Mon Sep 13, 2021 10:57 amI had the PVOC kit but they did some sort of paid update thing a couple of years ago to cover a new copy protection scheme, and made it a limited time deal so to get the latest versions I would now have to buy them again so toughWasteLand wrote: Mon Sep 13, 2021 8:45 amyes those, the name i had forgotten, great stuff! installed only the older versions...
wonder if the payed version, what they give more.
EDIT: morphfilter, MMorph is already in my arsenal. quite good stuff, and if insert MTransformer after it....
EDIT 2: Spectral Compand seems like the one in SpecOps....

They will not register it. Believe me, I've tried more than once talking to different Tech Support people there.Ah_Dziz wrote: Thu Sep 16, 2021 9:02 pmYou could probably sell that pretty easily and for a good price. The melda spectral delay has a band remapping graph (transformer) in the feedback path (I think it can be moved. Counterintuitively, it is active in the default patch and screws up the sound of the delay. Other than that and the fact that the delay graph is vertical and you set a maximum delay which you then change by percentage in the graph, I think it's pretty much the same as NI SD. Using the stepped shapes in the graph makes it much easier to get the straight forward style of programming that Spektral Delay had. I know you know your stuff, but the transform being active by default in a "new patch" messed me up for a while when it was first released.aMUSEd wrote: Mon Sep 13, 2021 7:05 am Just a pity the best spectral delays are all abandonware. NI Spektral delay is still one of my favourite effects but no longer works on my system, iZotope Spectron was the only spectral delay that came close but that’s gone too. Little Endian went out of business so no longer sell Spectrum Worx and same problem with Artificial Audio Obelisk. I can’t get into the Melda one - doesn’t work or sound much like NI Spektral Delay.
Looks like Michael Norris’s free Spectral Suite may be the best option these days as it may be cross platform soon:
https://www.michaelnorris.info/software ... c-spectral
Also NI SD was designed for older computers so using smaller FFT sizes is gonna get a closer sound for many setups. Anyhow I'm pretty bummed about how few of the really cool spectral processing plugins have stayed on the market and been maintained over the years. I use a combo of spec ops, NI SD, Spectrumworx (inside BC Patchwork for easy vst3 sidechaining), and the melda spectral stuff to cover the bases these days. I will be quite sad when NI refuses to continue activating my SD.

Not sure who is responsible for deleting my posts in this thread and why because if this is not on topic I don't know what else is... Anyway, as I tried to say before:
GS DSP released MagicDelay which is a FFT based spectral delay, so it is definitely yet another option to try:
https://gs-dsp.com/products/magicdelay/

To run the trial you can just download and install, no further actions required! I hope you enjoy it!

a moderator, because you've been necroing multiple old threads to pimp your plugin in since you got here. and yet you keep going.gsdsp wrote: Thu Mar 03, 2022 6:04 am Not sure who is responsible for deleting my posts in this thread
it is not okay for you to revive every single thread you can find to pimp your product in. stop it.
