By a lot of the metrics people use, things have never been better globally. If you look at infant mortality, access to clean water, immunisation programs beating smallpox, polio etc then things are really looking up. It's a shame we can't build on that as a species, still all the stupid pettiness/greed making things worse than they could be for the majority. But then that's kind of human history in a nutshell...foosnark wrote: Sat Jun 04, 2022 11:50 pmI mean, not everything is horrible. I still try to make the best of my own life where possible and I recognize, things are a lot better both worldwide and personally than they could have been. But they're also dumber and crueler and more rotten than they could be too. Overall I feel like we live in "interesting times" as the supposed Chinese curse says. And I don't predict seeing more stable, calm, historically uneventful times coming in the near future either.
I guess personally you need to try and keep that in focus, don't succumb to mass media doom mongering (hard as that is it times, I know) and work on the things that matter to you and your family, the small things, the things you get to define and deem important.
