I've like 6 nice tube amps (plus a solid state Ampeg bass amp), a good collection of pedals, mics, and preamps so I appreciate the novelty of being able to easily create my own rig profiles (assuming it's easy). I kind of feel like that's where Overloud went wrong in not opening up their Rig Player to the public, and if IK does this right, they have an opportunity to drink their milkshake.
I don't expect this will "replace" anything in my setup, but it will be nice having the option to create my own rigs and hopefully try out rigs other people have created. Interesting time to be a guitar player.

so, Kemper profiler! looks fun, but Its IK so take everything with a very large pinch of salt...(I doubt it is 'indistinguishable' from a real amp)
so will this will in some way profile the guitar the sound was played with?

Not necessarily just for Mac/PC users and not necessarily only for modeling your own hardware. There will be more information coming.noiseboyuk wrote: Thu Jul 21, 2022 11:48 am Anyway. Really the only purposes I can see for this tech are:
1) guitarists with hardware to have a version of their rig on a laptop which... may (?) be useful sometimes, though an app would probably be more useful so they always have it in their pocket.
2) creating versions for other people without the hardware (kinda obvious). But that doesn't sound that's the purpose of this particular product.

Sounds like there's going to be an IK hardware product to go along with this. Something "Kemper/Cortex-like". And the ability to model software chains isn't quite as exciting but there will be use for it.Peter - IK Multimedia wrote: Thu Jul 21, 2022 2:54 pm Not necessarily just for Mac/PC users and not necessarily only for modeling your own hardware. My beef with "profilers" is always the whole 'no reverb, no modulation effects' issue. Would be great if someone could figure out how to capture time-domain effects. You figure spring reverbs sound great via IR's, so I never quite got why an amp profile couldn't include that. Maybe whatever IK's coming out with will at least include some good on-board effects to run before/after the profiles.

Hi all,
I need to go on record to say that I've already publicly used the term "Tonal Mod" in a video on YouTube where I demo my upcoming Dual F amp sim. So I have a basis for a trademark claim in the area of amp sims. I have no problem with IKM using their term, but I insist on using "Tonal Mod" for my own amp sims.

I think you have to actually register a trade mark first...
Anyway, I can't really see myself using this over my hardware, unless it contains some new and really great cab sim component.

It’s quite certain that IK has been working on this for a while. IK loves their trademarks (DSM™, VRM™, SCC™) so I’m sure anything they may want to use as a trademark would have been trademarked some time ago, long before your YouTube video. (As it seems AI Machine Modeling™ already is.)DaveClark wrote: Thu Jul 21, 2022 5:20 pm Hi all,

So if they trademarked “Tone Model” already, maybe we’ll be seeing TM™ soon.
Also, I don’t think “Tone Model” and “Tonal Mod” are quite the same thing.

I wonder what happens when you feed other types of hardware audio or WAV files into it that it wasn't designed for, just to experiment and hear how it turns out. Hardware synth for instance?

The model would probably not converge.Examigan wrote: Thu Jul 21, 2022 11:11 pm I wonder what happens when you feed other types of hardware audio or WAV files into it that it wasn't designed for, just to experiment and hear how it turns out. Hardware synth for instance?

A lot of people (not me) like to hold on to their hardware amps and effects, but can’t crank it up to practice because of living situations. Having something that models your beloved amps, but can be listened to via headphones or small monitors is a useful thing.noiseboyuk wrote: Thu Jul 21, 2022 9:46 am Sounds very impressive, but not sure how much of a market there is for it? Looks like it's purely aimed at guitarists with hardware. And, well, they have hardware.

Well, if they add effects that are at the level of IK Tape Delay, I don’t think anyone will mind if it’s missing effect profiling.Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Thu Jul 21, 2022 3:42 pmSounds like there's going to be an IK hardware product to go along with this. interesting thought...there was a time I liked the sharing, especially when I first got my POD and POD XT live, but then I went back to rolling my own as it were. However one thing that I am thankful for, that we didnt have this technology growing up. As a result of my limitations I did build a strong understanding of achieving the tones I like, sometimes it took some creative thinking. I really prefer overdrive to fuzz, my dad built with me an amp from an old ham radio amp, he was so proud it was so clean and I was like "but...but..." I was forever trying to find ways to get my tone and I didnt have the cash to buy pedals. I learned a lot from those daysUnaspected wrote: Thu Jul 21, 2022 1:25 pmThere is great potential for sharing here. If done right, then it could result in an ever expanding tone library with all kinds of additional outboard gear.noiseboyuk wrote: Thu Jul 21, 2022 9:46 am Sounds very impressive, but not sure how much of a market there is for it? The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

I once bought a Kemper pack that had a bunch of other gear profiled in it. I can’t really say if it was good, because it didn’t sound great on guitar and I never used it on anything else, but I imagine it would do a good job.Examigan wrote: Thu Jul 21, 2022 11:11 pm I wonder what happens when you feed other types of hardware audio or WAV files into it that it wasn't designed for, just to experiment and hear how it turns out.
