Airwindows' stuff is mostly... "crap". I put that in quotation marks because, as it often happens, "crap" is good sometimes. The reverbs are almost always grainy or really basic. But kPlateA is my favourite reverb for tambourine, go figure! Lots of stuff is just weird and/or digital lo-fi, which is a sound I guess. I made the mistake to mix a couple of songs with Console7-9. (I'm not touching the latest Consoles, far too much weirdness). They resulted in congested, harsh mixes and I was keeping my levels low. And those are the "hifi" versions of Console. Far too much trouble for a subpar result.

That said, all my projects have something by Airwindows in it. Surely PurestGain or BitShiftGain, but also some other stuff like BussColors4 (a very quick way to get some subtle saturation and colour) and sometimes the various distortions. Or the more heavily coloured tape emus. There's lots to like.

You haven't?! What are you waiting for?! Chop chop. To the DAW!

How can one even call themselves a musician if they don't have a Top 10 tambourine reverb ranking?

A dedicated tambourine reverb is sorely needed! Chris from Airwindows to the rescue!!!

PS. Some of the Airwindows plugins need a higher sample rate to sound the best. (or even the way they are supposed to sound like) This is probably still true since Chris uses higher sample rates for his own projects and he makes the plugins for his own use too.

Luckily, Reaper has oversampling features. I run all of his stuff at least at 2x. Sometimes 4x.

Some of his filters and preamps are really great too. I love his X/Y/Z series for instance. And some of his Bezier filters are weird enough to be a good go-to for sound design.

Yes, Reaper makes so many things, like oversampling, easy - you can oversample the whole chain or any or all individual plugins and with Chris' creations it is sometimes wise to do so.

I've tried the X/Y/Z series of filters, but I guess should try them some more. It is just that it's like a constant Christmas with Chris, you get a new present and when you are opening it, there's another one coming - I can't complain though!

Maybe we should start a new thread: „What‘s the best reverb for tambourine?“

I like the plate reverbs and have them in thier own subfolders in reverb. There is some vocal manipulation plugin that he has that sounds interesting. I suspect that since they are open source that part of it is for other programmers so they can see the effects of his experiments. It should also let you know some of the short comings of daws when you try to sort these things and need to leave special notes about how this or that plugin works. would be interesting to see an airwindows only instrument index that could be loaded in cakewalk to help with the shorting.

Not sure what cakewalk is going to do with the instrument sorting thing but they just gave me 60 effects that I just sorted last night and a bunch of strange sample instruments to where different index sortings may make sense for thier software. We will see though. Think I had a total of somewhere around 450. doesn't quite rival airwindows but it was interesting and gave me the same sorting challenges.

I wish Chris would do his take on realtime granular time stretching. I need a fallback for when hosts drop 32 bit and db_stretch goes to the graveyard. It doesnt play well with jBridge for me

Look, like all of you I take my tambourine very seriously. I have entire pieces that are just tambourine. I often layer Gypsy and Moroccan riq tambourines with English salon tambourine and Italian tamburello, a few Shamanic tambourines (Navajo and Siberian), and a South Indian kanjira for accent. Do not doubt my dedication to all things tambourine!

The reason why I don’t have a favorite tambourine reverb is because I can’t pick just one! Sometimes I will run a whole symphonic tambourine section through a 480 Random Hall into a few instances of Blackhole. But other times, a more intimate French tambourin solo may require the delicate touch of a tight QRS room, or a vintage spring.

I almost thought that under the category Subtlety there was a plugin called Cowbell.
But it was Coils...
Dang that was close! :hihi:
