That's right. The C03 is fine too and is multipattern.

Beno,

Why would this be the case? Couldn't you use the laptop's onboard soundcard for output, while using this thing for input over USB? I thought Tracktion would allow multiple/simulatneous card usage; yes or no?

For the others: the pre-amp is built into the mic. Power for the pre-amp and for the condenser capsule comes over USB. Very ingenious, in my opinion.

ASIO does not support multiple audio devices simultaneously. So if you were using this mic as your input device, you would also need to use it as the output device. If it doesn't contain any outputs, then you would need to switch to another device to listen to what you recorded. I can't imagine they would make you do this so there is probably a headphone jack on the mic somewhere.

Perhaps they just envisage it being used to make location recordings with a laptop? In which case no outs are needed at all..

I can see the advantages of being able to plug a mic straight into a laptop like that, but I don't think I would want to buy a mic that I couldn't also hang over a drum kit when needed!

Does it have a standard XLR out aswel?

There's no mention of what type of audio drivers ship with the mic on the Samson site. Also, no mention of a headphone jack.

Perhaps they expect users to use MME or something other than ASIO?
