USB powered large diaphragm condenser mic, that also is the audio input interface. $80

I'd like to hear a review of this if anyone ends up buying one.

So I guess it is also powered through the usb?
Also, doesn't say who is making it.
Seems hokey to me.
Anti-aliasing is for "synthmonk%ys".

Yes, it's powered by USB. Samson is the manufacturer (yeah I know, it's not high end) but this might make for a great solution for the casual laptop recordist.

what about a preamp?
Built-in you think?

They say 'no need for an expensive software pre-amp' so I gues that's the case.

Wouldn't be much use otherwise! I think we can safely make the same assumption about the A/D converters..

Must say that it seems to be a very interesting product. I for sure will recommend it to a friend who's searching for a budget solution.

I dunno, but that's what they said.

Soundblaster cards have a "software" pre-amp. So it's possible to do it. But it's rather noisy, as expected. If you want a low-end solution, then get a Beghringer B-1 wide diaphram mic(excellent on acoustic guitars and vocals, IMHO), and then the Beghringer Shark, which has a pre-amp, phantom power, a limiter, gate, feedback destroyer, etc. You can get the two for under $200. It may not be the best solution in the world, but it is probably better than this mic combination. Of course, I could be wrong. I'm purely speculating.

Actually it says 'no expensive computer pre-amps'. To me, that means hardware...

I will buy a microphone from Behringer, the XM8500, I have heard very good reviews of it on a french music forum, and I think you should check it too, particularly its price

This thing better have a headphone out or else you are screwed. No way to listed to what you've just recorded. Or else you would have to switch between this driver for recording and you're internal soundcard for playback. That wouldn't be very convenient.
