Hmmm, not really much incentive for you to do so if the NFR works OK for you, especially bearing in mind that many of the bugs/issues in T1 are still in T2.

For my part, I guess the $20 download wins the day. The plug I most wanted was RMIV, but I could get the full download from Linplug and still be better off than buying the bundle. Ho hum indeed!

I won`t for a while at least and the rest of the band I am working with just went out and bought 6 copies of Cubase instead. Now I have to work with that too!

You can't. Mackie's dirnal just confirmed on a seperate thread. You have to pay whatever your local retailer ask for, whether you are registered T1 user, NFR, or newcomer. We all get the same (rotten) deal

I'm disappointed by the fact there won't be a donwload for a stripped version of T2, without the plugins. I have DFHS and I don't mind getting RMIV, for example. But business is business, this I can understand.

Well, wait and see but I think I'll keep my good old version of T1.

Actually you do have a choice . You could keep your existing Cubase, and/or your Tracktion v.1, and not upgrade at all!

Or if you prefer, you could save up for an entirely different host, such as Ableton Live or eXT, etc.

Or you could get FL Studio, which is available as an online download without you getting ripped off, and which includes a Lifetime FREE upgrades, and never need to worry again

These are all your choices, and no announcements can take that away from you...

...but of course, these are the choices all consumers have, and the competition that Mackie are now playing out against. I think they are taking quite a gamble to be honest, and I'm not entirely convinced that it's going to pay off for them...

well i got my daughter an nfr version to play about with on her pc (she's doing quite well at music at school). If the prices were more or less at parity buying her T2 would be a no brainer, but at the uk price it starts competing with other products that are more full featured (especially on the midi side).

Similar situation, really. I can upgrade my own pc version for the $20. But I had quite a few students (I teach keyboards/electronic music) who downloaded the NFR. I can't imagine a single one of them paying the shop asking price in the near future.

Several already asked about it because of the misleading emails Mackie sent out... and a couple of parents have actually complained to me. (very embarrasing, actually.)

At least one of them has already decided to wait for the Edirol soundcard bundle with Sonar LE (or whatever it's called) which was announced recently. FOr somebody starting out (he just got a laptop) I think that's now a no-brainer decision. Tracktion is likely to stay very much a fringe product here, I expect.

if that ends up being the case it would be a bloody shame, because it's an ideal introduction to sequencing: very few menus; the one screen paradigm; up & running in 10 minutes flat, yet with hidden depths once the concept of racks is absorbed.
If it was marketed & priced right it surely has the potential to storm the educational market (both for schools & for parents wanting to intro sequencing & digital audio to their kids).
At the current UK price, i'd have to say no, & probably get her fruity or something, for a damn sight less, downloadable version etc.

That is totally spot on, and I talked to Ben about it some months ago. He was positive about some suggestions I made, but nothing came of it. I guess that the Mackie guys simply don't get it though

...i mean i have around 100€ to spend and for this you won´t get Ableton Live and i think i hate FL more than cubase... ...my actual cubase version is Vst 3.55.. . ..but i could pay 69€ for the Cubase SE upgrade ..but then i would need a second monitor ..Energy XT is nice too but because of the PDC and performance problems i wouldn´t choose it...Podium is too complicated, P5 too expensive....mmmhhh..but i´m checking out Sonar SE (because i need a new controller, too)..maybe it´s the best option of all
..or what about the rumours about the successor of Muzys ..damn i think the world needs more affordable sequencers...
