Quiet Steve :-)
just a short reply.
I told about the slight difference just because of the octave difference, of course nothing more. we could say the cp-80 is probably more for experienced piano players.

Regarding playability, I just told I find the Prominy's one impressive and very satisfying, I could say "perfect". And having played other very cpu/memory hogger products like Scarbee's ones, I feel these softwares almost like the real thing (we can't have the hardware sensation of course). I partially agree with you regarding the technological issues: these things require well equipped machines. Actually I feel (and listen) the difference of running these things now, compared to the setup I had a couple years ago on a powerbook. Probably details, like you say, but to me details and subtle sensations are very important.
Of course I spent money trying to make a "pro" setup, but I am satisfied. And ram and hard disks (luckily) are always getting cheaper!
Who knows, maybe I could get your CP to run it on my powerbook for a "lighter" cpu/memory setting, why not! I know your reputation and I've often appreciated the stuff on your site :-)

I can only say that for customers and musicians it's wonderful to have always more products to fight for quality against each other, so let's everybody do their choices (trying/listening to demos, etc.).

Ah - IC.... there was a hint of an implication that the CP70 was somehow the 'poor relative' of the CP family - not so.

I am sure it is - it certainly looks impressive.

Fair enough - tho in my experience, most people just bang out a tune on their CPs with little (or no) regard to the more subtle aspects of the instrument's capabilities (which mine is equally capable of I should add).

Yes but....

All those velocity layers add to memory and CPU drain which, if they're not being used..... you see what I am saying. Mine is equally authentic but less demanding.

Thank you :-)

Indeed.

May the best man win is all I can say. The Prominy is a superb product from what I have heard and 'nuff respect' to it. My take on the CP is different but equally authentic and more 'economical' in every sense of the word.

Your call though... s'up to you which one you settle on in your purchasing decision.

Hollowsun,
when are the Kontakt/Giga/Halion versions planned ?
I like your CP70, but prefer to purchase in native format !
BTW, where do you ship from ?

Understood.

Work is underway

I ship the S5/6000 stuff from the UK. The converted versions are (for now at least) shipped from the US.

Don't worry - I'll keep you posted. As soon as the CP70 is converted, I'll announce.

Watch this space.

For a good freebie, try Greg Sullivan's CP80 gigastudio 2 format file. Easily converted to sf2 format using any of the standard programs (like CDXtract or Extreme Sample Converter). 3 velocity layers and a pretty reasonable imitation.

Note that you'll need to adjust the release times, since Greg likes 'em really fast, clav-like, and not much like the real deal.

A CP70 was my main piano for almost 20 years.
