FR: Manual addition of new VST filters

I wasn't bragging about how quik it is.

It takes me about 5 minutes.

Thats an eternity in computer time.

I've only done 1 full scan when I first installed tracktion over 2 years ago. I should do one just to see how long it'll take.

Well my "short" scan took 2 hours 45 mins... how long is that in computer time? It should have rendered Toy Story 3 quicker than that.

yeah rock that is insane. How many plugs, and how are they dividedm lots of subfolders? Lots of folders listed in tracktions search paths. Are there an inordinate amount of plug in presets files. That is one of my theories, that the number of files is what matters, whether they are a VST or not, so if you have a synth that does presets with individual files, that can cause problems. But its just a theory right now. If you clear the list, and do it on start up, does it get bogged down on any particular plug in?

My scan time is acceptable, around 2 minutes However, everytime I do a scan, even just for new or changed plugs, I'll get plugs on the ignore list that I was previously able to use. Once in a great while the scan will then let everthing through good, then when I add a plug or two I'm back to good plugs on the ignore list.

Sorry if this is a little OT. Wanted to throw it out there in a scan discussion instead of starting a new topic.

Any suggestions?

Sounds like a wonky vst or three...

I suggested a while back that we be given the option of checking and unchecking folders in the "to be scanned list". I think this would help out a great deal.

I've found the only solution is to have a minimal set of plug-ins. I don't mean minimal as in cut your own balls off to have just 10 or so; however, go through your list and bin anything that you haven't used in a month. You'll be surprised.

Regardless, it's obviously a problem. For a 'check new or changed' to take 2+ hours is berzerk.

It's probably how I have them arranged. Most plugs are in their own folders with their respective instructions, readme files and manuals. The plugins are then divided into function (about 20 or so functions like reverbs, utilities, midi, choruses) I have only 2 main directories. I would have only one but the steinberg stuff insist on being in its steinberg folder.

Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!! I moved all the sampletank instrumenst out of the VST folder, threw out a bunch of crap like japanese manuals (not that japanese manuals are crap for those that speak japanese), .SEP files, overly nested folders, a few plug duplicates and voila my scans now take about five mins like everyone else's. Don't know what really did it but HURRAY!!!!!!!!!

5 minutes is still nuts (although I'm happy for you) .

EnergyXT and FL Studio are good examples of how scanning should be. Both are nearly instantaneous....well, under 15 seconds anyway. I do hope future versions of Tracktion will improve this process. I watched as Tracktion scanned it's own plugin dir and it took 5 minutes! There's something radically wrong there.

i dont know you'd think it'd have some indexing thing that can just pass swiftly through and just say "oh look theres one new" and just add it quick.

i think what it does is load and check every single one to see if its compatible so it doesn't crash it. Maybe it should just go through, find the new ones, test them and bingo.

its the only host that hasent closed up on me because it didint like a plugin that i loaded

& its only a 2min scan for me so i dont mind that much
