My Etiquette Quango is superior to antto's etiquette commission. First of all, mine consistently uses capital letters, so is clearly more authoritative, and mine has the air of indulgent respectability associated with a non-government organisation.

More over, mine has the initials EQ which has plenty of analogue associations, which engenders deep respect, awe, and wonder from the unwashed masses, and tugs at their deep seated needs for approval.

The EQ will recognise any ec recommendations, since ec is a very deserving, respectable and highly regarded body. But if you really want to stand out, then you need an EQ rating.

This post would gain a 0dB (deservedly Better) rating. Anything less Hz.

that "his dad said blah blah" excuse from mike was a complete lie. i hadn't told him that until several months after i was there, and he never called me by that name, it was a joke as when i was four years old "you idiot", become "yueidiot". mike referred to me as "the idiot" - "der idiot" while speaking german on the first days i was there and onward. i don't know what it was specifically, but it may have been related to my level of pay. (this was during the time we remained on an absolutely professional level, so it was definitely not a friendly label)

i don't believe i've ever said i had the "most analog" anything and if i ever did i was definitely wrong - ignorant at that point. based upon what i know now and as i remember myself saying for the past years - no software comes close to deserving the title "most analog", let alone even "a little analog".

if we can get back on topic this relates directly to false marketing claims - that "we have the most analog ..." has been repeated so many times people have actually started to believe it, and the definition of "analog" has been changed because of this. there is a term for that which i can't remember at the moment.

when something is repeated so many times and exposed as a lie that the thing being said is assumed to be untrue or even impossible rather that aiming this negative at the person/people telling the lie.

gaybar is cooler, it has a catchy hook. i don't like the hook in synthesizer.

also, i've gotten gaybar played on multiple college radios. you just email them the mp3 and they only listen to the first few seconds, which sounds like a catchy college rock guitar riff. then it's on the air.

I was repsonding to "or what else does "public place" mean?" by explaing that this is not actualy a public place in the same way a park or a sidewalk is. This forum is provided for us by a private company, and they decide what the rules are.

But you're right to make the distinction between etiquette and rules.

has been for years, I do think it's wrong ,but at the same time it MUST be acceptable
because it's the way it is.

Difficult to have the same language. I noticed that in the US we use stronger adjectives: Stupendous plugin! Astounding sound! Spectacular quality! Out of this world! You get the point. If you don't use the same vocabulary, your product sounds, well, less good than the competition.
Seems to me that Europe is a little more shy (except Italy of course )

Well... really, that sort of stuff is the shallow end of the game. It doesn't sound very slick to English ears, that's for sure - I don't really think it's shyness so much as more that you tend to find dodgy or amateur marketing using these sorts of terms. But hyperbole isn't too harmful IMO.

The "we think their stuff A is pretty good, which is why we're especially proud of our stuff B" really is insidious though, and one of the most effective approaches in the bag I imagine. It's that specious neutrality that does it. I liked your EQ pastiche Duncan, hit the tone perfectly!

the only way you can avoid this stuff is to make it ineffective - the only way in my opinion it could be made ineffective would be through either making specific terms ineffectual, or by educating the consumer. there are problems in both cases making them both impossible; in the first case new terms are invented; in the second case the consumer doesn't want to be educated.

that's what you're up against - pushing up against a tidal wave of morons.
