i'm surprised the old reverb wasn't just automatically treated as an option. makes little sense that it was removed altogether, since it seems useful for backward compatibility at least.

This is maybe a silly request, but, could anyone who already got Vanguard 2 maybe post a sound example of a filter sweep (from fully open to fully closed to fully open again) of a single sawtooth oscillator, with no resonance, 50% resonance, 75% resonance, and then 100% resonance? In total absence of a demo, I find this always a good impression of what the filter sounds like. Just the default selected lowpass filter will do, doesn't have to be all filter types.

That's interesting! I was part of the closed beta team in 2005 on these synths. They all had their own sound and not just individually but to anything out there.Markus Krause wrote: Wed Nov 23, 2022 9:32 amVanguard1 (as well as PlastiCZ, Slayer, JunoX) was a collaboration between me and Michael Kleps (now Hartmann). We were both small indy-developers and shared the income. For Vanguard1 I did create the concept, the prototype, code the waveforms/wavetables/oscillators, the audio-engine (except arpeggiator & reverb) and one of the factory banks. Mike did the GUI, some preformance optimisations, the arpeggiator, the marketing and the website.I hope Vanguard 2 is successful for ReFX, as they were originally known for their synths like Plasticz, Beast and Slayer.
Mike licensed my old sourcecodes for the use in Vanguard2.
For PlastiCZ I did create the concept, the audio engine and the factory patches.
For Slayer I also did create the concept, the audio engine (except the reverb) and the factory patches.
If things run smoothly with Vanguard2 I'll give Mike a go for Slayer and PlastiCZ if he should ask me.
You can do the phase distortion of PlastiCZ also with Tone2 Nemesis or Icarus2. To initialize a phase distortion patch in Icarus2 pick the Templates->"Phase Distortion CZ" patch.
My favorite was Vanguard though. It has a unique sound. Cold-Warm? It's like a Waldorf digital in a way but still different from that. I really like the sound and was missing it. So I'm glad Vanguard 2 (VST3 64-bit) is finally here.

Thanks for the insight Markus. Looking forward to the gladiator update. Will also consider Electra.Markus Krause wrote: Thu Nov 24, 2022 8:50 amFireBird, Gladidator and Warlock are synths with HCM synthesis (harmonic-content-morphing). Here you can alter an existing additive spectrum with various algorithms.dermage wrote: Wed Nov 23, 2022 1:21 pm Weren't Tone2 Gladiator and Warlock the successors to Vanguard?
I definitely can feel similar things when using Gladiator, although the GUI is a bit off (tiny knobs even on full screen etc.)
Also Warlock is great, which has a simple interface but powerful and wide sound.
Vanguard uses an algorithmic/wavetable-style approach.
I developed FireBird as a new synth for reFX after Vanguard. However, Mike did not like the sound of the prototype and was already busy with doing Nexus.
I also had created a prototype for FilterBank which should be also a new product for reFX. Mike did like its sound, but had no time to release it under his label.
To be able to release these products I founded Tone2.com .
During the next year the GUI of Gladiator, Electra, RayBlaster, Saurus and Nemesis will be reworked. It will get a zoom-able interface and WQHD/4K/8K support. Also the blurryness on Mac on certain scales will be gone.
Interesting that I thought it sounds similar, that's maybe because it has your signature sound. Warlock comes closest to vanguard then by its simplicity to use for me.

yah-
it's only Slayer2 I need really,
but x64 would be a handy advance though
there is nothing else that can do the note range and sustain of Slayer2

As an owner of ver. 1.82, I’ve purchased it immediately…

Not being able to demo it, and a bit put off by the old synth engine (not necessarily a bad thing, but, what I heard of v1 on Youtube didn't really impress me enough), I will pass on it. It's OK, my plugin folder is too full anyway.

How are the new wavetables? Some tables contains a bunch of random individual tables, while others are one sounds but spliced up, like growls, a continous idea, etc. Are these new ones?
It's the same audio engine though right? Does the verb and distortion really make that big a difference.
Where's the demo - boo~

Awesome to hear how you got started! Figures you were behind this beauty of a synth.dermage wrote: Thu Nov 24, 2022 5:40 pmThanks for the insight Markus. Looking forward to the gladiator update. Out of curiosity, have any Nexus owners bought this?
I wonder what happens if I press this button...

The original ReFX Slayer is still in FL Studio as a legacy instrument (32bit).nix808 wrote: Thu Nov 24, 2022 8:35 pm yah-

Imageline licensed it back in day but they are threating to get rid of it at any stage as they don't own the code and it's only in there for peoples old projects.
BTW sorry I'm not trying derail the talk of Vanguard.
