I've done this, it does not cause a crash.

And I have been blown away by your entry in this OSC. It's my favorite choice in this challenge by far. Well done! :tu:
The more I hang around at KVR the less music I make.

My entry, "New Man," is a tribute to one of the great synth artists of the 80s and onwards, Gary Numan.

Made in Studio One 3.2, It consists of just 16 tracks: 5 percussion, 3 bass, 3 pads, 1 pluck, 2 leads, 2 SFX; all tracks are MIDI using xhip. There are three effects sends: one reverb and two delay; the reverb track is EQ'd and compressed. All effects are native to Studio One and the track insert effects include Pro EQ and Mixtool (for gain automation) on every track, and Compressors on the drums and bass buses. The master track inserts are: Tricomp (multiband compressor), Pro EQ, Mixtool, and a post-fader Limiter. All patches are either presets altered to suit, or hand-programmed sounds created by me.

[Edit: Forgot to make CC and downloadable. Now fixed.]

Thanks, that is very nice of you to say :D After not listening to it since I uploaded it at the start of the month, I remixed and changed a few parts yesterday. The new mix is currently on Soundcloud.

No inspiration for me lately :)

I tried to force myself to do something before time is up, although I'm not interested in entering so I suppose it doesn't matter.

I considered doing a gabber/hhc or oldschool techno style track although I figured I would have spent way too much time (too late now) trying to duplicate 909 sounds. Cymbals and hats ala 909 are not so simple without samples.

Uses six Xhip instances,
Bass + Chord -> Xhip mDelay -> Xhip Compressor (for pumping effect),
Lead -> mDelay -> Xhip Tremolo (not really with rules, although only used for light auto-pan),
Perc -> Xhip Multiplier (for low frequency width) -> Xhip Reverb (light room, brings out the clave),
Master -> Compressor + Xhip Limiter to destroy any pesky dynamics.

urlwolf wrote:I bought bitwig this week. And to my surprise, it crashes consistently using the 'released' version of xhip. The only way I can get some kind of stability is by running it inside chainer, a vst wrapper. Argh.

UPDATE: 'released' version crashes, even inside the vst host 'chainer'. The alpha doesn't work inside the chainer, but it seems not to crash bitwig (yet) and it accept changing fxp files. But of course it cannot save presets as fxp, this being bitwig (reason I was using the chainer wrapper). This is really an uphill battle. My only option is to:
- use the alpha
- save presets in the native format, knowing full well it won't be future proof
- hope for the best (not crashing bitwig)
I also reported a bug inside this thread with Xhip inside Bitwig Studio. Since it is the only plugin that causes Bitwig to crash, it seems to be a bug with Xhip. It happens the same way you described later, while loading/switching presets.

Bitwig may not handle the long parameter names that Xhip uses. This is not a "bug" per se as if plug-ins were to follow the VST specification (very few do) parameter names would be severely length limited.
I've looked into this further and no matter what I do I'm unable to make Bitwig crash while running Xhip.

Both 64-bit and 32-bit versions of the plug-in, both version 7 and the current alpha.

Bitwig is filled with numerous bugs... it appears unable to redraw correctly under Windows 7 with Windows Aero disabled.

Moving any parameter control from Bitwig results in a NAN (invalid parameter value) and it must be adjusted from within the Xhip GUI in order to work correctly. This works in the alpha version for some reason although I'm unsure of why. (For comparison both versions work fine in numerous other hosts' default editor.)

Bitwig does not support mouse-wheel either via the vendorSpecific() work-around or via Windows messages.

I'm unable to find how to load/save .fxb or .fxp format files. It seems the "presets" in Bitwig are using "state" chunk data although they result in a full reload of the plug-in.

It seems the author of Bitwig still have a lot of remaining work to do as many features are missing and compatibility (Windows 7) is limited. I'm unable to get it to fail, although the best I can recommend is that if you find that loading a Bitwig "preset" can lead to a failure you should avoid doing that.

Due to the number of other issues I personally would find Bitwig intolerable for my own use and I can't recommend it should be used with Xhip 7. That said, it does work if you can accept all the missing features and issues and once again I've been unable to reproduce a crash.
