Uncle E,

This would make Zebra even more awesome!

Sample libraries don't have the filters, do they?

Doesn't mean Diva can do any analog synth sound...tommyzai wrote:I've never been happy with synth sample libraries . . . so limiting. I would even prefer Nexus over them. I have been hesitant to dump the samples because I thought I could use them to layer with to fatten and warm things up, but if a synth like Diva can do it alone . . . is there any reason to keep a synth sample library at this time?
Personally, I don't favor samples cause they are static and I'm happily willing to trade absolute realism for the immediacy of synthesis. With Diva, the realism as a snapshot is remarkably close to the essential character of analog and the ability to do modulation surpasses samples. The real beauty of analog is how it sounds while tweaking and modulating and that cannot be found in samples anyway.

Hey guys, I've got a bit of a problem with DIVA which I noticed on a few of my patches: the volume can vary quite a lot though time, it's very noticeable when playing a repeated pattern.
Could this be due to some phase cancellation between oscillators which is slowly shifting with the detuning, and are any of you experiencing it too ?
I've never noticed it like that with other soft synths.
I haven't had time yet to debug it properly in case it's logic automation going mad or something like that ( wouldn't be the first time ) but the project looked clean.

@FastTriggerFish:
Hm, never had that issue over here. Every now and then there might be sound variations, like slightly less bass if you use two detuned oscillators, but nothing as serious as you describe.
Do you think you might post an audio example?

I definitely consider Diva good enough to replace actual analogue synths for recording (at least for the Juno, which I also do own as hardware).tommyzai wrote:It seems most Diva beta users agree that Diva can rival or surpass any other VSTi analogs.
So, I think the next question is . . .
Is Diva good enough to replace actual analog(ue) samples?
.
But imho the answer is no, because analog synths can't replace samplers for what they do.
Samplers have their own additional (unique) strengths. Even something as basic as playback on different pitches alters the sampled sound in a different way than when simply playing different pitches on the analog synth that was sampled.

Yes I'll try posting one tonight. The unshushable Coktor wrote:@FastTriggerFish:

It's still up, but the host can be a bit slow (meh, including another link makes makes the forum bots give me a spam alert.Gonga wrote:Ch00rD, put that image up again so we can see it (I see an x)! I checked out the side panels - this is one #### Diva! But not sure about the purple...

I did like a lot of other hues too. As I said, just a quick hack for now - when Diva's GUI is finalized I'll have another go at skinning. But I wouldn't be surprised if Urs makes changing the hue to taste yourself as easy as it already is for the LEDs.

hehehe, the LEDs are done by alphablending pre-tinted images.
I have however been working on the integration of a 3D-renderer and photoshop-like layer tools right into our gui framework. This is dearly necessary for those big plans we have for Zebra and Berlin Modular. One can't seriously do all that design in a 3D software, then add bits and pieces in Photoshop and then do all the layout again in the ui editor. Thus we're reducing the need for Cinema 4D and Photoshop within our workflow.
On the really bright side we also get much faster gui loading times, built-in Hue/Saturation/Gamma support, the chance to resize the gui much sharper, and what not.
I hope to do this throughout Q1 and Q2 2012 while Clemens can tackle some more filters.
Cheers,
Urs

Btw. where does one get a royality free or affordable Leopard pattern from? - All my photos in zoos are always through a fence... (and mostly Zebras, anyway)

This seems to be something happening in the real Minimoog too. You could check the part "Performance Parameters" (the diagrams there) at this article:FastTriggerFish wrote:Hey guys, I've got a bit of a problem with DIVA which I noticed on a few of my patches: the volume can vary quite a lot though time, it's very noticeable when playing a repeated pattern.

Well yes, it *could* be the ADS envelope.
Ours simply adds and adds and adds. I think we should restrict it to some value, maybe 300%?

The libraries themselves don't, but the sample players they're used in usually do. There can be a big difference between sampling an entire patch from a synth, and sampling the raw waveforms. I think they have their place next to the modeled synths.Crackbaby wrote:Sample libraries don't have the filters, do they?
