Sounds very interesting - Buchla? Serge?
I will post pics/vids of my recently grown modular some time...

I've become a huge fan of Make Noise, so I'm rather thinking "synth without filters and envelopes but still very musical and performance orientated". Add in some Mutable, Verbos and Endorphin.es and you get the picture. That said, we won't do an emulation. I don't think that's possible yet (curious about Softtube thing). But I do feel inspired to come up with a genuine u-he design.

Basically, I saw some performances during Superbooth, specifically Kyteman, Max Loderbauer and Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe, and these changed my perspective on modular synthesis. I have since studied the design of certain modules hand on, in a musical context. I think there was something similar to this in the design process of Zebra, ACE, MFM, Filterscape and Bazille, but there are also some ingredients (or concepts) that I have not yet known/thought about.

And then, a few days ago, I walked into Schneidersladen and you can guess what happened. Large parts of u-he offices are now devoted to swapping modules in Eurorack cases while some of the vintage beauties had to take seats in the cupboard (I shall eventually post pics of those as well).

When do you sleep Urs?

That sounds like a massive project (once you can tear yourself away from your new toys). :D I appreciate that you said that it wasn't coming soon!

Sounds fantastic. There is no way that I can sneak a Eurorack into my office without the other half noticing and going ballistic, so software 'emulations'/'whatever you want to call thems' are of great interest.

I will look with envy at your pics and look forward to the day you deliver this monster.

Cheers.

It might not actually become such a monster. It may become a bit more than an Easel, but it'll certainly be smaller than a Make Noise Black & Gold. I was thinking ACE type complexity, with utterly different types of modules.

OK. I'll be looking forward to it next month then

Built to allow you to add/swap modules in the future?

You've got me watching this now (when I should be working!):

+1 ...when do you get some rest ???

:phones:

I get a lot of rest, no worries. I just watch 12 employees do my work.

Near future:
  • Presswerk & Satin updates
  • Repro-1
  • MFM2 update (UI and new features)
  • 3C bugfix/maintenance update, maybe new presets, maybe new UI
...
3C? Never heard of that...and Google delivers the strangest results...

Edit: Sorry too hot here, it's Triple Cheese of course... :P

Looking forward to your MFM2 UI solution..new features sounds intriguing though this thing is already a beast.

Also looking forward to Uhbik surprises.. :tu:

No promises, but I have successfully transplanted a simplified Uhbik-G (granular pitch shifter) into the feedback fx section. Think, ahem, Echophon. It's a tad lofi - as granular things often are - but it does a few decent tricks. Furthermore I'm in the process of pairing it with a transient attenuator to smooth out the out-of-sync echoes that are inevitable with granular stuff. Nothing big, just a nice little bonus.

While I'm at it I might as well extend the filter selection, but I haven't even begun to think about this.

I could do a hundred of other things (oversampling, different delay interpolation method and what not), but I think the above features are a good start for an update.

I was already getting exited when you started to mention a new modular synth influenced by Make Noise/Verbos/Mutable... but the above quote has my hands visibly shaking! I'm a patient boy. :D

Oh regarding a possible "west coast" style synth... if you haven't already, please do check out the some of the Random*Source Euro-Serge stuff.

I just finished building a VCFQ and an ÷N COM (I have a SSG in my backlog). The VCFQ has me completely rethinking the way I use filters. As one example, using the trigger input with the filter in low mode, you can get these awesome decaying LFOs... anyway, just a thought. :D

Hello Urs!
You can make all settings in Hive available to automation?

Amazing news. Can't resist and avoid posting this.
