And they are a really small team, last I heard they only had 3 developers. If that's true, I'd say they're getting on quite nicely.

Post

Yeah I think so, too. they could have made the next update major, but instead decided to ship it as minor and not ask any update fees from existing customers. Given the nature of software updates, 1.2 or 2.0 are still just numbers. IMO this is a major upgrade, but I'm fine with it getting it at no additional cost :-D

BTW you could always try the demo, which is fully functional except for save and export. Sorry for stating the obvious here, but that would save you the money at least if you don't like it ;-)
This could be your ad!

There are 4 now - Alexandre Bique ("Abique" on KVR) joined the team earlier this summer :-) :tu:

Honestly, with just 4 developers you can't really expect them to push updates faster. I realize that for power users this may be not enough, but I'm a beginner, sort of growing up together with Bitwig :D and their update cycle suits me just fine.

EDIT: I think that just because BWS is a direct competitor to Ableton people assume that they have similar manpower, which clearly is not the case.

i guess one reason for the delay was the redevelopment of the connection between audio engine and interface. Formerly they used port audio, wich is in development for a long time already, so stamping out something better in this short time is quite remarkable imo.

edit: oh, has been said already..

I know existing users don't forget but, Bitwig was pushing out updates every month for months until this audio interface/groups/browser functionality was introduced.

Speaking of the new audio engine stuff, can any devs comment on the stuff we've been hearing about a big improvement in cpu performance? Is this something real that's related to the new backend?

Could also be that the people who see those big improvements are the ones who formerly were having problems because of Port Audio.

Getting some weird behavior with beta 4. Sometimes Ill start a project and everything runs great and other times ill start one and the thing pops and clicks a lot and I end up having hard crashes on the smallest of projects. Always using the same template I made too which is pretty lightweight. Maybe 7 -8 tracks total. I just sent a project to the team where I have a track that I can click on and it crashes BW every single time. Anyone else having this random bad behavior? I'm thinking the pops and clicks might be from the audio interface rewrite not sure though. I have never had major performance issues like this in 1.1.xxx. Always been rock solid in that regard. I am on win 7 64bit 16gigs ram ivy bridge i5 oc'd to 4.7. I get a lot of crackle when building the track and clicking on many things etc. Track mutes faders etc. I dont even have high latency inducing plugins on the project either. DSP meter and IO meter is super low. Very perplexing.

I see similar things here randomly and so far was not able to nail it down to anything.
Sometimes it helps to just restart BWS, sometimes not.
The sometimes relatively constant soft crackling noise is also random for me. First I thought it's from the focusrite beta driver, but I'm no longer sure, since it only happens with BWS.
Good to know I'm not alone ;-)

yeah the crashing doesn't stop if I reload. Happens every single time. Sometimes the crackling and popping stops though. Very hard to put a finger on what the underlying issues are. Hopefully the team has some nice debug tools that can catch something. ;) Oh and I am using RME drivers(the VERY best).

Yeah, I hope that too. ;-)
I use a not-the-very-best Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 with beta drivers, but I no longer think that is the issue.
Did you have cases where after the crash you can no longer open the file you were working on?

Yes I did. Once, but I think it might have been a project I opened from 1.1.xx. There was one project that got corrupt and I couldn't open it anymore. That might have been beta 3 though I cant quite remember.

Oh wait also I was working on a project that was a 3 hour DJ podcast where I had to merge 3 1 hour sets into a 3 hour show. I started it and it got corrupt and I had to start over because it wouldn't open. Then when i started it over though I managed to complete it with not too much issue. This is why its weird because I usually use all the same plugins and in one project everything runs fine and in another its very problematic with crashes, project corruption, and crackles/pops.
