I think U-he plugins are worth it and need no BOGO deals.Krakatau wrote:on that respect , it would need a complete U-He bundle !?david.beholder wrote:Amazing news. Can't resist and avoid posting this.
And I gonna buy them all except Hive.
Urs: Diva has one amazing ability is to add moog sounding osc to Jup 6 filter. Would we have ability to mix pro1 oscs with arp filter?

We have a lot of stuff we'd like to add to Diva. Arp filters and Prophet Oscs are not necessarily as interesting as other things. I think that those synths - like the Pro One or the Oddyssey - are mostly interesting due to their concepts, not so much due to the sonic character of their individual components. We need to find things for Diva that work well within the traditional subtractive paradigm and contribute something outworldly to the sonic palette.

I'm not sure it matches the theme or the architecture of Diva, but I would love to see U-he's take on some kind of SID-chip emulation... Only the filter is truly analog, but I think the oscillators are mixed and the envelopes applied in analog. Also, if I understand correctly, the low-spec of the chip and a poor signal-to-noise ratio contributes to a very specific sound.
I don't think there's any good software emulation currently available, so there's maybe a (small) market to take?

A Mutable Instruments oscillator with added Zebra Osc FX maybe?Urs wrote:We have a lot of stuff we'd like to add to Diva. I find this talk of modular inspired by Make Noise, Verbos, et al, inspiring. One idea that struck me is that Make Noise has previously taken algorithms from software developers (Tom Erbe) and designed modules based on them. I could be cool if, besides a software modular based on west coast ideas, U-He could design the digital foundation for a module by Make Noise. At first I figured that something like a Zebra oscillator would be cool to have in my Eurorack, but then I realized that that would not make sense for at least two reasons. First, editing waveforms like in Zebra really demands the computer monitor. Second, using a module from Expert Sleepers I can already use Zebra as an oscillator in my Eurorack modular.
Ok… next idea (I think this has been mentioned before). It would be cool if Zebra (or Zebrify, or Zebra 3) would offer an additional output that was DC coupled. Then I could use all the fancy Zebra modulators and route them as modulation sources to my Eurorack. I already use Reeaktor 6 like this, but Zebra has a lot of nice modulation sources that would be neat to have.

Gosh... hehehe, as much as I love the idea of doing something like that (or even doing something for the Tiptop DSP module), I think we need to stay focussed on what we do best for now...Stollmeister wrote:I find this talk of modular inspired by Make Noise, Verbos, et al, inspiring. Repro-1 is our testbed for connectivity through Expert Sleepers. If it works out we might offer upgrades to other plug-ins, most likely starting with Bazille and/or ACE.Ok… next idea (I think this has been mentioned before). It's really a pity that the audio input in DIVA was never realized...

It isn't off the table... but we had/have to fix VST3 first, and hope for the best for Repro-1 i/oArrested Developer wrote:It's really a pity that the audio input in DIVA was never realized...

It's funny that Urs refers to those specific vendors as "west coast". Maybe I'm old, but I don't really see them that way. West coast to me is related to "non-pitch" and/or "fixed beat" related synth generated music. By using triggered and sloped vs scaled functions, the Buchla and Serge platforms became a tool for bleep bloop and other self generating type music such as drone and scape.
The vendors you refer to seem to be taking a modern sampling and digital signal processing approach into a kind of conglomeration of pitch and scale possibilities as well as sync vs freerunning controls. It's very interesting and I'm really psyched to see what Urs can do with it. But, for whatever reason I don't think of it as west coast. </pedantic>

Ah, I read the bit about "without filters" finally. But, the original Buchla and Serge had filters. They were just controlled/triggered a bit differently due to the very different slope generators, wave generators and randomish voltage trigger modules. I see the difference in the randomish control of odd waveforms, gating and slope/envelope triggering as integral to West Coast. I reserve the right to be totally wrong.

So lets have one of those EG Slope Generators or variable waveshape LFO with a 30 minute rise and fall time

Well, to me it's more like additive (complex oscillators) vs. subtractive (VCOs+VCFs) synthesis paired with lowpass gates vs envs+VCAs, triggers, sequencers and (random) function generators vs chromatic keyboards, and the idea that patch and composition are closely related.SJ_Digriz wrote:West coast to me is related to "non-pitch" and/or "fixed beat" related synth generated music.

That may be the best definition to explain it I've come across so far.Urs wrote:the idea that patch and composition are closely related.

Thanks, but I'm more asking about would there be mono synth similar to Diva but based on pro-project? I mean it's going on now in real life say there are boomstar with moog oscs and arp filters etc. Diva has it's amazing ability to link different synth parts into new synts. May be making similar mono synth might make sense.Urs wrote:We have a lot of stuff we'd like to add to Diva. Arp filters and Prophet Oscs are not necessarily as interesting as other things.
