still usin their plugins, love them, but on one hand i find it just bad and unacceptable to not have resizable GUIs already.

Spaceblender is also v5.5, the rest of the suite is still at 5.4. We've likely got a new 5.5 version of the whole bundle coming once this promo stuff is over.

I know, although that doesn't necessarily mean they will all get resizable GUI's in that update - we can only hope

It doesn't guarantee that will be the case, but it's probably a good indicator. Fingers crossed!

Soundtoy's developer has already shown WIP screenshots of multiple Soundtoys plugins with GUI resizing, so it's definitely something they've been working on, and something I expect them to roll out soon, given that they just launched Spaceblender *with* the new GUI resizing. Perhaps one of the reasons they made it free was to get as many systems as possible running it to shake out any problems with the newer GUI frameworks etc, before they roll out updates across the board...

Great news! any links to the article? Resizing and a refresh of the GUI would be greatly appreciated.
Would be good to move away from skeuomorphism

I must have missed that because I can't remember ever seeing it. Are you talking about existing plugins or new ones? I could sure do with an echoboy with a better UI (bigger would be a start)

The plugin faceplates are enough (as per EffectRack), the wood bits just seem a bit 2010-era skeuomorphism. Old fashioned, but not in a cool, retro/vintage way, imo…

The Soundtoys folk are good people though… :tu:
I agree, ditch the damn wood, personally I kinda hate it.

Resizable guis and oversampling modes are no brainers, especially in 2025.

I heart skeumorphism.
Tangled roots perplex her ways.

Like everything in life, there are ways to do it well and ways not to.

If colors are too dark and slow down at a glance legibility of parameters, that's bad. I'd argue a few ST plugins have this problem. If shadows and lighting make things hard to read, that's bad. If ornamental things like wood panels and rack ears take up too much space for no reason other than being decorative, that's unnecessary. If controls end up tiny or you have to scroll a plugin because they emulated the hardware to an annoying degree (think some Arturia synths), that's terrible. If a plugin emulates a 90s piece of digital track gear with a narrow row of knobs (thinking like Quantum Room Simulator is MixHead) that's just lame nowadays.

There are ways to botch modern UI styles too.

It's all about execution, not one being better than the other for me.

Just an half hour wiht photoshop to show what a difference in fun-ness and legibility do to such overly dark (and poor use of glare) SoundToys GUI's.

To each their preference obviously. But to me, that makes things 80% more easy and clear to the eyes. At least they did include resizing in Spaceblender. Which is their newest release, so maybe that indicates they are working on resizing for at least future plugins but perhaps their older ones as well.
