Barbarossa, you act like I haven't acknoledged the problems, which is utterly untrue. My last post was directed purely at aldi, who has a habit of JUST coming in here to bash Mackie. No, not ALL the time, but pretty much. And those posts don't bring up any valid points.
However, I HAVE admitted the problems, with those arguments, I am fine. I have repeated myself saying that I wish Mackie would be better at many things. But I've also remained realistic in that Mackie doesn't owe us anything. So maybe in the midst of all the long posts, you've not realized that I'm not TOTALLY against the people complaining. I'm just against those who unfairly accuse Tracktion of being unprofessional and saying that they "hate" Mackie all the time.
But I'll say it again. I hope Mackie can communicate more. I WANT them to. But until then, I have the software I paid for, and that's all I'm owed. No hard feelings. Just read my posts. You've just taken my posts in the wrong way.

Barbarossa-- I am also known as a "defender" of T, (though I prefer the term that someone came up with recently, "Tracktion Loyalist"
Struck me as funny!) and I will always acknowledge problems as they come up, and also refute claims that there are problems when such claims are either a ) unfounded, or b ) not clearly T problems. In the case of option b, it's always more fruitful to trouble-shoot the entire problem and not just assume T's entirely to blame, since isolated problems usually don't fall under the category of "bugs".
However, and this is an important note, so pay attention-- the vast majority of the 'complaints' are either:
1. Unsupported with evidence or specific information. You can't just say, "my GUI is slow" and expect there to be a bugfix. With such cases, I and many other people guide people through a list of things to check, and often nobody even confirms that they've followed the steps. Possibly because a lot of times people are so DEAD-SET on it being a 'bug' that they couldn't possibly imagine that their PCI latency (for example) needs sorting. When a set of circumstances finally reveal the area in which Tracktion is consistently deficient, it becomes MUCH easier to "bugfix" than simply "some people are having GUI slowdowns... fix it." That's just one example.
2. Complaints about Mackie in general, such as aldi's. When people say, "Mackie really dropped the ball", there is room for debate. In which way did the drop the ball in your opinion? And then discussion ensues, sometimes heated. But you can't just say, "I hate Mackie" and expect people who are still happy with Tracktion and Mackie to say, "YEah... you're right... they really SUCK!!" No, rather, I point to the NUMEROUS things they've done for Tracktion (not the least of which being hundreds of expensive 1- and 2- FULL page ads in leading publications). And then I (and people like koolkeys!) will also agree about certain things like a public database of bug-reports. Hardly a bunch of "blind idiots" who are merely "defending" Tracktion because we're some sort of slaves to the man.
And since this is just general complaining and whining, what are Mackie or the "defenders" supposed to DO about it, according to you? No, the responsibility and CHOICE is in the hands of the people who are making the attack, and they shouldn't be surprised when their BS isn't just blindly accepted. In fact, they're NOT surprised, because half the time they're just trolling.
or 3. Simply out of context, which is damned annoying. In a thread called "Will an Audiophile 2496 work well in Tracktion?" I don't need WhinerX saying, "Hyuk, in theory, when Tracktion isn't crashing, hyuk hyuk."
The third one is the worst of all because not only does it derail threads, but it's incorrect. The majority of us are NOT experiencing daily crashes, or in my case, crashes at ALL! How can you expect me (in particular, can't speak for anyone else) to acknowledge and respond to things that I haven't experienced? I can't say, "Man, I hope Mackie fixes barbarossa's problem soon," because I don't even know what the heck your problem IS!
Finally, there's a huge trend (especially when the chicken-pecking-party begins) to just blindly say, "Oh man, what about all the bugfixes?" without actually knowing what you're talking about. I'd be curious to know about which bugs you're referring to on page 17. Which of your problems are we supposed to be acknowledging that we haven't? ("we" being whatever people your post seems to be against, and I think I can safely assume I'm one of them).
Don't throw around petulant accusations until you're willing to support them a bit or do something about them yourself.
At one point in time, a render bug was found. I was one of the people who first said, "I dunno, dude... at -90dB, I never would have found it... are you sure it matters?" (for the newcomers, whenever the 'render bug' is referred to, they were talking about a glitch that would occur at -90db, primarily during reverb tail fades, but of course with any source material). But then, 2 things happened:
1. Someone reminded me that even if it doesn't matter to ME, for some people that -90dB glitch is enough to smear up their track. It's irrelevant if it's important to ME, because it's important to THEM.
2. Someone actually provided alternative evidence of the bug, so that lead-ears like me that don't hear the difference would at least still acknowledge the bug.
And guess what happened? Not only did the "defenders" acknowledge the bug and admit that it had to be fixed, but then... TA DA... Mackie worked on it and fixed it.
And without actual inside evidence, *I'm* going to be the one to make a speculative guess here and say that I bet it wasn't Jules himself that fixed it.

hey, everybody shut the f**k up and listen to me!
im sure julian needs a break from this crap. im sure he still cares about T. and i am positive that he has made sure that the folks that are now in charge of most of the work on the program are well capable of doing as good a job as he or better, or it wouldn't have happened. afterall, the guy created the idol that our little community is built around.
we should look at this as more of a reassuring post by julian than one that means doom and gloom for tracktion and her community. he's no longer alone in the lab. he's able to concentrate on the future of the community. he's able to be what he is, instead of what we've made him into (a laboring code writer with rings under his eyes).
and if he is sick and tired of it, and moves on and hands her over to more capable hands, then so be it. let them either make it better or f**k it up. ...whatever... but learn to relax in the mean time. it's a very nice scaled down professional app. if you're working on something that is going to make you so upset and unstable so as to go all to hell when the developer of said scaled down pro app tells you he has helpers on staff, then you need to look into another career option. this is not for the weak in mind...
ill tell you what! this whole thread has been insane!
have fun julian. go create! go find that creative passion that spawned tracktion. go revitalize your mind and find your inner artist again. we as a group really do thank you for the time that you put into the program. it has been very helpful to me, personally, in my live recording ventures.
i use other software as well, but tracktion seems to be a better option for the live stuff. very nice. very well done. i prefer it for mixdown of multitracked studio work as well. even though i do own other high dollar apps, this is the one i keep going back to. good idea! good work!
julian, i hope you do post in here again. it'd be nice to hear about the progress on what you're doing with yourself. we're all interested in how your life is going, not only what's going on with tracktion. i think i speak for everyone when i say that.

Personally, I don't care if one person created Traction, or 100 people created it. The fact is, the program is marketed as a professional product with backing and support by Mackie. If I encounter problems, I'm not going to feel guilty discussing them on this forum, or any other. I just hope that the bugs will get addressed in a future software update. It seems that some of us have been waiting quite a while for an update that will make this software usable for us. Maybe Mackie should have beta tested T2 more completely before releasing the product.

bchamp, I can't just take it to PM because you seem to have turned your PM'ing off...
BUT--
Which 'bugs' are making the software unusable for you? Clearly they must exist, because clearly you are having problems. It's not like you hate Tracktion, you WANT to use it.
If I asked this question 2 days ago, it would be because I was testy and annoyed. But today, I'm not feeling testy OR annoyed, and I'm mainly just genuinely curious. I'm not asking as a backhanded way of saying "you're full of shit" this time... I wouldn't mind knowing which issues you consider to be showstoppers right now.
Now, in advance preparation of being accused of baiting you, I'll warn you that I WILL present counter-arguments for anything you list that is more specific to individuals or hasn't been "trouble-shot" enough to be considered a bug; however, I'm not intentionally trying to start up a new flame on this now 18-page thread. I've finally had my fill, and I'm back in the mood to try to help people out who I formerly thought of as "whiners" instead of just debating with them.
So in summary:
I probably WILL present counter-arguments, but I won't be doing it to be snarky, I'll be doing it so that everyone involved (myself included, when OTHER people chime in) can sort out what are considered to be showstopping bugs or not.

First of all, the bugs I have encountered aren't show stoppers, but they are frustrating to have to deal with.
Also, I'm running T2 on a Mac so maybe PC users are having better luck.
Anyway, here is a summary of the bugs I'm encountering when I use T2:
1.) GUI problems, especially with various plugins. Minimonsta occasionally has a corrupted GUI. I have also seen this with BBE Sonic Maximizer...the graphics get really messed up(blocks around the knobs). Audio-wise, they work fine.
2.) I've had input select issues. For example, I select MIDI input for a particular track, and an audio input gets selected instead. Sometimes it takes a few tries to actually select the intended input.
3.) I've had instrument tracks play even though they were muted. Toggling mute a few times cleared it up.
4.) On all of the VST instruments that I use regularly...Sonik Synth, Sampletank, Mtron, Minimonsta...the knobs(volume knob for example) act weird and jump all around. I have to slowly move the mouse and even then, the knob rotation is extremely jerky. I don't have this problem with the same plugins in other hosts(RAX and Logic).
5.) Not sure if this is a bug, but the input names(on each tracks input object) are truncated since I have no way of resizing the left side of the screen(input column).
There may be a few more, but these are the worst offenders at the moment.

BC

bchamp, nobody is denying anything you said. If you have a bug report, you SHOULD feel comfortable posting it here. but be prepared to present details, or proof. Let people help you narrow it down. That's what this forum is for.
I haven't personally read all your posts, but if you're having problems, please post them.
Our problem is that people who have so called "problems" just come here and complain that Tracktion is unprofessional or that Mackie sucks. Well, that's idiotic to post when just telling your problems could help you out of it, or narrow it down so it CAN be fixed.
Here's another "defense" for Mackie. They gave you a demo to work with where you could try out T without spending a dime. And guess what, the program hasn't changed for the worst since then. There were even bugs fixed. Now, if you had the chance to try it, and you bought, that means that it worked for you. Some people come here posting that their problems are "showstoppers". If it didn't work, then why did you buy it? The bugs just didn't appear out of nowhere. Why would you buy software that has showstoppers. Obviously not much of a "showstopage" is it?
Point is, have some sense posting here. Use a little smarts and explain yourself. Be prepared to give details. If you come here with a crap attitude, doing nothing but complaining without any proof, it's your own fault your problems aren't fixed.
