Ok, no guitar at the moment, but found an old demo track / in my 20GB of demo tracks folder/ and re-amped it with the new
IK Multimedia Mesa Dual Rectifier. Just installed the demo to try it.

Can they still add in an external fx module for inserting VST plugins into the FX loop? It was a mistake to overlook.Peter - IK Multimedia wrote:The release is set for October, I'll share more specific release date information when available.BasariStudios wrote:Exactly...SJ_Digriz wrote:until they release it.

I'm not gonna grumble - the new cab stuff alone is worth the upgrade price, and I must be the only person who is really really keen to use the looper and mini-DAW stuff. Although not sure how nicely it is going to play with non 4/4 time signatures!
I've always kind've thought the cabs in AT3 were the weakest point. I like the range of amps and I ran the Soldano SLO model up against an Axe FX II a while back, and the tones were VERY close. Here check 'em out... I wont tell you which is which just now...

So yeah... I think the new cab features will give some of the older amps a bit of a life injection! I'm not bothered that the new amps are all Marshalls at all. Not a big deal to me when I've got plenty of options in AT3 as it is.

A sounds much better to me. I hear 1) more bass, 2) less noise, 3) more dynamics, 4) just sounds bigger and more forward sounding. The underlying tones are similar, but there's a big difference in how they're being presented. If I had to guess, I'd say A is the Axe FX II, because I'm hoping what I'm hearing is AT3's weak cabinet modelling. I hope is A is actually AT3 however, I just suspect not.Amberience wrote:I'm not gonna grumble - the new cab stuff alone is worth the upgrade price, and I must be the only person who is really really keen to use the looper and mini-DAW stuff. Since AmpliTube is coded to work as an end-to-end chain (while you still obviously have the ability to put what you want before and after, but the components of the chain are built specifically to work together as a whole) I would say that's unlikely. If you'd like to stress your feature request, you can request it directly, though I have already relayed any requests as usual though.electro wrote:Can they still add in an external fx module for inserting VST plugins into the FX loop? the only amp sim i know of that can host (any kind of) third party vsts would be peaveys revalver. but even without this neat feature it's an absolutely mind-blowing software imo (although i can't say how it would compare to the latest amplitube since i couldn't test the latter yetelectro wrote:Can they still add in an external fx module for inserting VST plugins into the FX loop? I think it's best to leave third party effects out too. Some reasons against:
1. There's the question of what formats to support (VST2 only, VST2/3, AAX PC/Mac, AU on Mac)?
2. What kind of stability problems would Amplitube now encounter? How big of a bug or incompatility warrants a code fix to get working?
3. What will this mean for automation (someone will surely ask that hosted effect parameters can be automated)?
4. What about VST effects that introduce their own latency? Users will think it's AT3. Reporting dynamic latency changes to hosts is a PIA.
I'm sure there's other reasons against, but the potential negatives don't warrant adding the feature IMO. DAWs are very flexible in what they allow (you could run multiple Amplitube instances with effects sandwiched in between, or use sends, busses, etc.) and there are other modular hosts you can run if you want to get even more creative.
What I am surprised about is that the Amplitube and T-Racks shells weren't combined. Perhaps latency was a concern since a lot of the T-Racks plugins introduce a bit, but I honestly thought IK would head towards having a single shell that worked for both product lines (after all the Custom Shop sells both sets of add-ons). Plus, as a user, I'd just like the option of adding a Neve EQ or LA2A or 1176 to my guitar chain using the T-Racks plugins I already own, and save all that as a single preset. It would make perfect sense.
