Well, FWIW in case it got missed, I agreed with Rock's suggestions as being the best of all worlds. ;) Double-clicking an edit to launch straight into it would be ideal.

Imagine:

- Configure your multimedia keyboard to open your folder with your various "template" edits, including "blank edit" with just the press of a button,

OR

If you don't have a multimedia keyboard, just pop it into the Quickstart menu.

- Double-click "Blank Edit Template" and it launches right into your sketchbook.

- Then, double-clicking the Tracktion icon (instead of the edit) just does things the way it already does them.

Problem solved, no?

What's really boggling me (and it always boggles me when things like this come up, not just this one particular debate) is that people think that saving what is literally a few seconds (or not, depending on perspective!) is even worth debating. I know somebody's bound to say, "When the muse is speaking, every second counts!" but I have my personal doubts. If it takes 10 seconds to load up the way it is now, or 8 seconds any other way... are those 2 seconds TRULY going to crush your creativity?

Is this even worth debating?

Nobody else seems to think so, and are just happily letting me slug it out because I'm the only person stubborn enough and bored enough. ;)

hey! it was /my/ suggestion! =)

yeah, exactly what i ment ..

... after all, even the original post didn't say that tracktion should open up this way. i just asked if there is /a way/ to do this. but it seems there isn't

well it's not that much the time you have to wait as the things you have to do before getting your hands on the midi editor.

if you've just come up with the perfect melody when lying in your bed, you really want to get going right away and not thinking of things like what i should name the new project or should i just make a new edit or what should i wear etc ;P

if there is a way to avoid it, it should be used.

that's what streamlining, transparency and intuitivity etc in hosts is all about, and opinions like yours results as hosts that have less of these things. (in general)

could be you work differently, but for some this is important.

same here ;D i actually (once again) came to the conclusion that tracktion doesn't suit me and the way i work. i just don't seem to get used to it ... i'm on my way from logic to something else and have tried almost everything. many hosts several times. it's been over a year now since i completed my last song and since that most of my time as gone to trying out hosts, vst(i):s, samplepacks etc, and it's getting pretty frustrating. i had no idea logic was /that/ good before i dumped it ..

well, i guess i'll have to get one of those mactels then .. really looking forward to sonar5 though, but i'm getting pretty sceptical of good reason ;P

That's all well and good, and if it doesn't suit you then good luck to you; however, it doesn't make sense to say that it's interfering with intuitive thinking or workflow. It greatly assists in workflow AND fits my intuition just fine. ;)

You have to admit (or you don't HAVE to, but in your own mind even if not publicly) that's a pretty weak example... "Not wanting to think of a name"... you mean it's really that tough to say, "Midnight Idea #1"? You can always change it later. :D As for the rest, don't you store ALL your projects in the same root directory? It's not a challenge to decide where to put it, either!

OR, open your "testing" edit like the rest of us do. ;) No thinking involved whatsoever to ruin your creativity... the only thing that makes this solution less ideal for you than yours/Rock's solution is 2 mouse clicks. If you're letting 2 mouse clicks become an issue, then I can't really argue much more.

Despite the smilies, you (pHz & LM) BOTH managed to piss me off... J/K

I must admit, I still find it bizarre that the idea upsets you so much - anybody game to go to the Logic forum and tell them the Autoload system is no longer available? ;-)

Anyway, regardless of how insane you think it is, I've worked BOTH ways, and I like AUTOLOADS.

On another note, can you rename projects and edits really easily? I wouldn't mind working the current way as badly if that were the case - Nuendo is a bit painful about it.

lm, well .. all i have left to say anymore is that better is always better and that is what we should be trying to reach.

and that'll be my last post in this thread since i actually don't care that much about this thing anyway.

Efficiency is where Tracktion wins, so the less clicks the better IMO. :P

Post

Yep, I agree with both the last posts ;-)

By the way, can anyone tell me whether you can adjust the fades on all selected files at once? I just tried selecting all the audio files, and adjusting the fade-ins all at once, and only the one I was actually clicking on moved.

If THAT doesn't work, I've found another feature request! And at least no-one can argue that it wouldn't save time!

Mr. Tingle didn't indicate which method produces fewer clicks. ;)

lol - yes, quite right - it's just that WE know, don't we? ;-)

Well, I certainly know which way would produce the fewest clicks: the launch from edit icon idea.

In the meantime, the same amount of clicks are produced either way. ;) Actually, FEWER clicks are produced for me with the existing way because I don't have to close a blank edit before opening an existing one. :D

(Yes, yes... I AM a stubborn bastard!)
