VSTs by big manufacturers...

AKAI-Pro had released some good VST effects but already discontinued.

Roland
HyperCanvas http://www.roland.co.jp/products/jp/HQ-GM2/index.html
Orchestral http://www.roland.co.jp/products/jp/HQ-OR/index.html
Super Quartet http://www.roland.co.jp/products/jp/HQ-QT/index.html

YAMAHA
Vocaloid http://www.vocaloid.com/jp/index.html
PitchFix http://www.yamaha.co.jp/product/syndtm/ ... index.html
FinalMaster http://www.yamaha.co.jp/product/syndtm/ ... index.html
VocalRack http://www.yamaha.co.jp/product/syndtm/ ... index.html

KORG
Korg Legacy Collection http://www.korg.co.jp/Product/Synthesiz ... /spec.html

big manufacturers are focussing on hardware synth and place softsynths as for entry users i think. unforunately, there are not so many commercial vst manufacturers like NI in japan.

NI, IK, USB, Waves, Steinberg... they are also very popular in japan.

Post

hi g200kg,

thanks for your additions, i'm a big fan of the KLC and the NI-stuff too.

but, what's about all the small freeware (and shareware) plugin builders ?
do you know a big japanese "meeting" site where we may download their creations ?
do you know any japanese vstbuilders and/or vst(i) which are unknown on KVR ?

best regards to japan

vista :)

unfortunately, there are no big community about vst developping in japan.
i think almost japanese freewares/sharewares are already introduced in KVR database.

ok, even if...

this is some additional japanese vst site (may be not known at KVR)
http://kiritansu.ddo.jp/synth/main_e.html
http://synthedit.ojaru.jp/ (Synthedit Labo)
http://www.sonichead.jp/carsynth/

if not restricted about vst, japanese developpers have released many standalone
music softwares. (sequencers, wav editors, sound toys...)
Music category http://www.vector.co.jp/vpack/filearea/win/art/music/

and, toooo fancy virtual keyboard (im not sure if it work on non-japanese windows).
http://www.vector.co.jp/vpack/browse/pi ... 06011.html
probably be embrassed if you use this in serious project, but very stable and
multifunctional (at last, introduced in serious magazine as a good virtual kb :-)

** is the word "DTM (DeskTopMusic)" popular only in japan?

The superb synth, Exciton, is also by a Japanese author:

why do you think this is the case?

yes, really only in Japan, though it is a great label in some ways.

There hasn't been any action on Vista's Japanese list for a few years. I have been through that list and checked every link for freeware VSTs - I have missed a couple of paywares and maybe a couple of effects. Here are all the links that still work:

I haven't tried any of these instruments yet. There are some that look very interesting indeed. If I think any are really good, I'll let you know.

One of the earlier posts on this thread mentioned mu station's capsule
http://www.geocities.jp/mu_station/ step sequencer.

This is a brilliant tool, very useable indeed. I haven't figured out everything yet - when you have an inactive circle (step) on a preset, I can't figure out how to activate it yet. Also, since FL studio 8 won't let you move a synth up past the top 20% of the page, I can't quite see the bottom of this large synth. Nevertheless, even though it looks like a toy, it is one of the best VSTs I have. If anyone can figure it out, I'd love to see more info here. It has quite a meaty sound and I would have no hesitation about using it is professional work.

Among the other things listed above, you get the impression that the Japanese are keen on sequencers. So am I, and have been talking to DSK about designing a new instrument. I love his Oranze - among my freeware VST's, it is one of the few I use all the time and it is quite good enough for professional music.

Post

You just have to click on the ring to activate/deactivate the step.

Post

Anybody mentioned Vocaloid? Or Yamaha? That's pretty much "Japan" written all over it.

EDIT:
Apparently it was, including ROLAND, too.

Saxi. It's in the data base and made by a Japanese saxophonist and admirer of John Coltrane. It's a terrific little instrument and for some things far superior to Linplug's saxlab. Give it a try.

Ciao
