really, that's debatable? would you mind starting a thread inquiring about this? i can't imagine that getting the tools for expression into everyone's hands a bad thing
hmmm ... so you want to tell me it's a desired thing to have to dig through millions of crap productions flooding the market, just to find a bareley good one?to me at least thatone is a considerable point ...
you know, there was a time when art was strongly connected with skills ...
and by the fact everyone can do it now, regardless if he's skilled whatsoever, having actually learned by experience, the output gets kinda washed out drastically ...
i'm not bashing, just saying that the coin always has 2 sides ...

There has always been tons of horrible music from talentless people, even when record companies controlled who recorded it. The big difference isn't in music coming from artists with no skill...it's that now they have neither skill nor MONEY.

shit filters itself out. or it can, at least.

the problem with selective availability was that availability was more closely related to wealth, which is a strange criterion for expression.

Woah, weve gone way off topic here right from page 1!

This wasnt meant as a software v's hardware debate or a whats good about software thread. It was to discuss in what categories, reverb for example, whether software has overtook hardware yet.

Post

Cables are much better in software than hardware :)

when she does notice I have my standbys

I'm beta testing this

can you believe this is free?

it's a demo

it came on another disk and I just found it

and of course the classic that I think Fred Flintstone invented

it was such a good deal I couldn't afford not to get it

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

The ladies know this one;

Compare a $3000 Motif or Triton with a $1000 laptop loaded up with Forte Ensemble. The workstations give you 128MB samples...with up to THREE whole velocity switches! With a laptop, you get Ivory with 7 velocity levels, and 4GB samples...

Try to install a B3 modeller on your Fantom...or even a decent virtual analog...it takes a $3500 Kurzweil before you even begin to see those features.
Why even buy a Motif or Triton when you can just Buy all their Factory PCM Samples as a SF2 File for like $30 from a Good Old Chinese Friend down by the river. :hihi:

Me too. I'd like to have all perfect preset copies from Roland, Yamaha and Korg for just $30.

no, i don't want the presets sampled, i'd like to have the raw pcm data only ...

Sampled presets wouldn't be as good real synths obviously. Just raw waveforms wouldn't make originals either.

Because it's not about the sampled PCM data, it's about the effects used and the programming behind the sound that makes it a Motif or a Triton. Was just playing with a Roland XV-5050 the other day, for example, with all the effects turned off. It was kind of bland. Turned the effects back on, and it was 'wow!'

I'm sure Brok with the right sampler could make some beautiful presets out of them, but the raw sounds are just that, raw sounds. Not to mention, those waveforms are copyrighted material anyway.

As JMJarre pointed out once, most keyboards nowadays sound good, but when you listen to the raw sound, the quality is that of an old Casio toy keyboard...
