It means played with a pick (also called a "plectrum").Architeuthis wrote:??? what is a "plectrum" version?bduffy wrote:Question: any plans on releasing a plectrum version?
Dude. That would destroy!!! As an alternative rock-type guy, I need a good pick-bass, and they're hard to come by; almost impossible, in fact. With Kontakt scripting, it could really come to life! You got a customer when it's ready.Gregjazz wrote:Thanks!! You made my day.
I think I do need to make a plectrum version. With the 4x round robin, that'll make the upstroke/downstroke picking especially realistic. I'll also put in some scripting to track pick direction, since a lot of bassists use conservation picking rather than pure up/down cycling.
I'm really excited about doing a pick version, since with 4x round robin, it would do really well with rock, or especially metal, where you're playing 8th notes on the same note. So having 4 downstrokes and 4 upstrokes to cycle between, that's 8 notes before the samples repeat--a full measure of 8th notes in 4/4! (I know you can do the math, I'm just getting excitedbduffy wrote: Dude. That would destroy!!! I can't actually: math flunkee here.Gregjazz wrote:I'm really excited about doing a pick version, since with 4x round robin, it would do really well with rock, or especially metal, where you're playing 8th notes on the same note. You know, that's funny: that's exactly how I felt, until I unearthed this demo from a few years ago with this killer slap bass in it:morelia wrote:Don't get me wrong, I like UBK for what it is, but I never got it to sound great in a mix, and I couldn't really get the attack to sound how I wanted it to. And the sound is not exactly what I was after. I keep it on my HDD for lightweight work when I don't want to load up something bigger. Like my Scarbee bass which sound fantastic. But this Cherry Bass is spot on IMO. It sounds great, very playable, and it is for my system a great size. Another 2bg bass would not be any use to me. I can see this getting all the bass work around here. Love it, and thanks for making it affordable.
Really nice bass part there bduffy. The bass sits beautifully in that mix - you can hear it in every register as clear as a bell.bduffy wrote:Oh man, this bass if off the charts. I just flew it into an old project from my last album that required fingered bass, and man: it just mixes itself! I'm not sure if I would even apply compression to this, it's just even; no plosive frequencies, awesome bottom end...sounds like a tracked bass. Amazing.

Looks like yet another great bass from Greg. If you are doing more articulations they would be welcome here too.
Yes, it makes sense, and that's one of the factors I would definitely need to take into account when scripting the upstroke/downstroke cycling.bduffy wrote: So speaking of round robin picking, there's something that I wonder about: if you're doing irregular 16-th note picking (in the same vein as strumming) where you tend to alternate your ups and downs in uneven patterns; is there a way to get the script to intelligently "know" where the downstrokes and upstrokes would be? That's the biggest problem I have with bass libs (that I usually have to cover up with mixing); even with round robin, you're not necessarily getting up/down behaviour like you would in real life.
Does that make sense?

Nice. I don't know how the hell you'd do that, though...Gregjazz wrote:Yes, it makes sense, and that's one of the factors I would definitely need to take into account when scripting the upstroke/downstroke cycling.bduffy wrote: So speaking of round robin picking, there's something that I wonder about: if you're doing irregular 16-th note picking (in the same vein as strumming) where you tend to alternate your ups and downs in uneven patterns; is there a way to get the script to intelligently "know" where the downstrokes and upstrokes would be? So that's a secret then, huh?I wrote:Congrats on the release Greg! *Very* exciting!! Can you say something about the bass guitar that was sampled for CoreBass: Cherry?
