Great sequencer years ago - then moved to Live
Tracktion is just old shit now - I haven't even bothered to install it on my old computer

Live is wicked now with future Max integration

Tracktion is just free stuff chucked in with mixers snd mics etc. as a bonus - no updates, no point now.....

Of course they don't have to communicate anything--that's their right. In that case it's also the right of those customers (justifiably, in my mind) to feel betrayed and let down, and then start to look elsewhere for a software company that is more responsive to customer concerns.
Mackie have not demonstrated any really interest in their Tracktion users since Beno disappeared, and really Raw Materials was the "Software" company most of us signed on to.

Look at their current marketing announcements:

They are moving forward as a hardware company (just as they have for the past 20 years). It would be really best if they passed Tracktion onto another software developer and salvage what was once a very promising DAW.

I wish I could share more, but unfortunately, I can't. But I DID find out some Tracktion news this week while here(I swore not to tell for now).

Well the rumor mill has it that Traction is being taken over by behringer, not sure if this is a good or bad thing :o

But you can tell if that is good or bad news, no  ?
Well, I really can't say specifics because my source was very "off the record". But I got the information yesterday.

Let's just say that Tracktion is at least being discussed. I hope I can say more soon. Sorry to lead anyone on.

Beno hasn't disappeared. And surely he knows more than anyone. It's not always his call though on what he can say.

I've talked to him through email recently though, and he's still very much around.

Ummm a simple "hi" would suffice, or is that against company policy?

I do not know exactly who or what is involved. I was just told the situation. Trust me, when or if I'm allowed to say anything, I'll post it here first hand. I promise. And I am not employed by Mackie, so I don't have any inside tips from the company.

Nice one. That was at least a 3-pointer. Nothing but Net. :D

Of course, Behringer being the king of reverse engineering (especially Mackie stuff), would probably have T3 torn down and put back together in a reasonable amount of time. However they would most likely change the name to "B3" or "B4". But it would be cheaper and would include a free 4 channel mixer with USB (albeit lousy drivers), full support for their B-Control series, and a coupon for $50 off the purchase of a pair of their powered studio monitors (some restrictions may apply - see your local Behringer Dealer for more details). This could be a good thing.....

Better let that T-thingie just die with a very last grain of dignity than hand it over to the next hardware-company, no matter if Behringer or even worse...

I guess with the news about Live 8 I'd sincerely think about trying that one if anyone can convince me that the few things I'm doing can be done as easy and intuitive as with T. I used Live Lite sometimes but could never cope with that tiny tiny sequencer-view and its cluttered interface.

So far, the closest I've found to Tracktion's simple workflow is Reaper...

Brent,

First off, thanks very much for posting (seriously). And it's good to hear that Tracktion has not fallen into a black hole.

But (and now I'm directing my comments not at you, but just generally into space)....again, I fail to understand what is gained by beno/Mackie/whoever with this cloak and dagger stuff? I fully understand that there may be sensitive negotiations about ownership or whatever else going on, and I know business dealings can be arcane and tricky at best. But honestly--no one from Mackie can just pop on a forum and say "hi, we can't disclose much at this point about Tracktion's future, but rest assured we have not forgotten about you and we hope to have a resolution to issues as soon as possible"? Surely that's the minimum amount of care that a company can muster for customers who have spent money on one of their products?

It boggles my mind that Mackie would risk mass user defections, and potentially thousands of dollars in future Tracktion revenue (if only 10 people switch to something else, that's $1,000 right there), because they were afraid to make even a single "vague but reassuring" post in a forum over the course of months, while assumedly being aware that people here are waiting on word of future Tracktion development and resolution of major issues they're having. It's madness, and maddening. I mean, it'd take two seconds out of what I am sure are very busy days for them.

Obviously they can do whatever they want. But it reflects quite poorly on them as a company. In this economy, you'd think a company would want to bend over backwards to keep their customers as happy as possible....amazing.
