You get that the rave is about the famous moog lowpass filter not about the osc. Are you kidding? Moog oscillator?

The rave is about both and all other components too, like the famous "snappy" envelopes for example. :)
fluffy_little_something wrote:I think you might change the filter key follow, the filter seems more closed on lower octaves on the Jupiter.
Additionally, if there is a key follow control for the amp, it might make sense to make the lower octaves louder relative to the higher ones.
The detuning might also contribute to the different roughness.
Nah, i am done with this sound, already achieved what i wanted and even more.

Attack time 1ms? Can only be a moog? ;)

This time the famous Laser Harp sound from JMJ Rendez Vous 2/3.

And the patch:
https://app.box.com/s/ir21m3xvm41i97ug4aofu2vzhgmuab4r

I don't like this sound very much (i'm more of JMJ early albums fan), so i won't match it as closely as i can.

Oops ! Forgot to say that to hear it as i rendered it, you need to set unison to 8 voices and around 0.10 on the next two values in the unison page - it is not saved in the patch file.

Did the original use unison?

If you want to save state use a .fxb file.

Most probably. IDK :)

Edit: Googled it, looks like there is no unison on that synth.

Bitexion still has it lying around. The key is an exotic modulation where you modulate PWM with the other oscillator.
That's why the timbre is so difficult to get just right on other, lesser synths. And hard sync naturally.
Here's all the exact settings posted by JMP. Note the "Waveform OSC1 PWM". Very rare modulation on most synths.
An envelope sweeps the pitch of the hardsynced oscillator downwards for the characteristic baoooooooo sound.
------------------------------------------------------------
synthex laserharp

LFO - Triangle Waveform routed to PW2. Depth 3. Frequency 3. Delay 0.
Tuning - OSC2 Sync On.
OSC 1 - 8' Octave. Transpose 0. Pulse Waveform. Pulse Width -1 (of -5 to +5). Volume 7.
OSC 2 - 2' Octave. Transpose 7 (of 0 to 12). Waveform OSC1 PWM + Ring Mod. Pulse Width -1. Volume 7.
Glide - OSC2 Glide. Speed 10. Amount 2.
Filter - Low Pass. Resonance 0. Frequency 5. Keyboard 10. Envelope 5.
Chorus setting - 1 (Lowest of three).
Filter Envelope - Attack 0. Decay 2. Sustain 2. Release 0.
Amp Envelope - Attack 0. Decay 5. Sustain 5. Release 3.
Release envelope ON.

So it looks like the chorus is doing on the Synthex what the unison is doing on Xhip. :) (kinda).

Hey Aciddose ?
Looks like your site is offline.

[edit]
Hey ? Are you alive ? :)
If your subscription to your web host timed out, maybe make a new site @ wordpress ? Like VOS and good few other VSTi plugin devs ?

Elo again. :)
Do you know this song ?

It is a new version made in 2012.
I like it very much, thats why i tried to copy it with Xhip.
Download it there:

Traditionally hard panned Xhip and some freware effects on the left, Tangerine Dream and their synths and effects on the right.
Not 100% satisfied with how close (or rather how far) all my Xhip sounds are, but for today that's all i can do - i am not a synth wizard, just an enthusiastic enthusiast. :)

Your example unfortunately doesn't sound like the Synthex Laser Harp preset. By quite far. And correct, no unison on the original machine.

Yeah yeah, i know. :)
Don't provoke me or i'll spend that 1 hour more with a sound i don't like and get it way closer (to what i can hear on "Third Rendez Vous", not to the raw synth output, because i don't have any raw samples of that sound from the Synthex). :D

And so i did. :)
https://app.box.com/s/kvbk8aaout7qngqo1u134q3b6zah6opj
L=Xhip+ReaEQ+Tal Chorus LX+epicVerb+Nick Crow Tube Driver(on neutral settings, providing only the noise)
R=Elka Synthex+whatever effects JMJ and his crew used on 3rd Rendez Vous
Closer now ?

The main difference now is envelope curves (attack is too "snappy" on Xhip side).
Would be closer if i used Xhip with linear envelopes instead of my preferred exponential.

HD failure, the Xhip site as it was is gone for good unless I pay to recover the content of the disk ($1000+) which isn't likely.

The site is back up from a backup I made in 2013, unfortunately I didn't bother to image the site after that.

A lot of the new php code for the site was lost which will need to be rewritten, although most of it was very basic. Since all the documentation was out of date anyway it doesn't really matter. When I re-write this I'll update it.

The code was all fully backed up weekly and I haven't lost anything. I'm working toward being able to rebuild the latest effects and alpha version so I can post them on the site. Since the version of the plug-in was identical in 2013 as it is now (7) all I need to do is rebuild the installer, although I think I'll leave it alone for now since this old version of Xhip isn't downloaded as much these days.

Some advice: if you use a SSD, make 100% complete disk images and put them on an external backup and then use a differencing backup tool. Replacing the disk is a quick 30 minute job and $100, but reinstalling all your software and re-configuring costs days to weeks of effort.

Decided to revisit one of my old projects: Polymoog with Vox Humana preset.
This time not to match the sound, but to improve on the qualities of the sound that i find most beautiful (they may be different for you, so you may think it is not an improvement).

Original (not my video):

Xhip:
https://app.box.com/s/0erqf5xchj1kb602pw4lsy7ria53ttap
Made it more stereo and tweaked EQ a bit, gave more "bite" to bass notes, increased release on ADSR.
