FFS...

Well, at least Spectral works on Windows 10, and I see no reason why it shouldn't function for a longtime. Best of luck to Peter and his new direction, I genuinely mean it.

But, Note To Self: don't buy plugins from small developers anymore. I may consider dumping my plugins and getting Komplete -- stable market presence, longevity of product life, covers all the bases...

And maybe adding a hardware synth that won't sh** out with a Windows update -- Novation Peak seems appealing to cover a lot of sonic territory.

I think it's a very valid idea. He has worked on albino with them. It only makes sense.

The 3rd law of thermo-dynamics states that: the 2nd law has two meanings, one of them is strictly wrong, the other is massively misunderstood.

Tell that to the Kore users!

Alchemy as my biggest loss, I had a lot of sound banks- I know it still works, but I was really hoping for Alchemy 2 (on PC!) - other than 1 or 2 companies, most of the VST developers are small companies....
X32 Desk, i9 PC, S88MK3, S1, BWS, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6 Pro3, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone II, OP1-F, OPXY, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

Or you can go the DIY Receptor route - simply install the synths on a machine that's stuck on an older OS and treat it like a hardware module (but one where you can use something like VNC to program it via the GUI). Linplug's purely serials so no pesky C/R to worry about. I've got an old laptop for that purpose now but I'm considering slapping an old Mac Mini in a rack tray alongside a cheap MIDI/audio interface and using that for some of the plugs that have been officially discontinued.

Yeah, I had/have Alchemy as well. Another reason to consider Komplete.

As for Kore, that sucks. As will the eventual loss of the Kontrol series (ie, peripherals). But the software/content has been stable for a longtime (the core offering), and I don't see NI suddenly pulling Kontakt or Massive from the market.

EDIT: And yes, not buying from small developers would eliminate the majority of developers. Fine. Saves me the time and headache of demoing products, learning new synths, redeveloping patches...

Yea no kidding. It's mostly toys and shit but absynth and kontakt I just can't live without. Then there's all the sample content. They make it cheaper to buy komplete than to just get the damn things separate so that's how it goes.

Sad news. :( I wish them the best. The one plugin I have of theirs is CrX4, very cool product.

Post

Sad to see Linplug go especially as they along with Algomusic, were the first VST vendors I spent money with. But its a very crowded market these days, the returns must be getting harder to justify the efforts and I guess Peter wants to move on having given his fair share of commitment to it over the years. Good luck to Peter and the crew. :tu:

Anyone know what makes Kontakt quite so bulky ... Recently got it and the core program (i.e. without any samples) is well over a gig !

i would say that's exactly why they're going out of business!!
they weren't exactly small developers though.

I'm not so much surprised, same with DiscoDSP (if the closed website is an indication for a closed business).

It must have been 2003 if I bought Albino. But it was the only synth I bought from Linplug, no idea why but I don't liked the other stuff.

The discodsp thing kind of surprised me. George seemed like an open guy that would notify the users about just closing up shop, but I guess that was wrong. Same with Camel. If you can't depend on them, I'm not sure if you can depend on any developers, can you?
