It would be great to hear some comparisons with the original. If I developed a analog emulation, and did some A/B comparisons during development, I'd just record some of the stuff, and post it when I release the synth. Captain Obvious, kind of, but, unfortunately, the least companies really do that. With anything which has a "analog emulation" tag on it, I always wonder how it compares to the original, obviously.

There’s an “all the gear and no idea” guy who just posted up comparisons on YouTube of the BARP, Korg and original Arp 2600. I guess he could do a comparison, but I imagine it’ll be piss poor.

I imagine you would be right. Watched that vid the other day, and was pretty-much WTF?

Just briefly watched the vid, but, it seems like he's pretty good at making good stuff sound bad. :D

That Behringer thingy looks nice, with its Xmas tree lights on black metal. But I wonder how long it takes before the first of those zillions of mechanical controls breaks.

I’d be apoplectic if my £3k 2600 had issues. A £500 one, meh, could buy a replacement while the other is being repaired.

I'm looking forward to that comparison. I did an A/B between CA2600 and the Arturia version, starting from an init patch (basically all sliders down and no patching) and played with some filter FM and other audio rate oscillator mods.... and they are two completely different sounding synths. But I have no idea if either one is closer to the real thing, I just know that audio rate stuff is pretty tricky to pull off in software. CA2600 sounds great though, with some nice patches. $25 is an impulse buy!

I don't know how the Cherry Audio synths are, I never tried one of them. But, quite disappointed with the Arturia emulations. Their filters all sound pretty bog standard, and are not at all at the level of authenticity of other emulations. IMHO. Pretty sure someone will rip me apart for that again. :P

Most companies are well aware that their emulations don't sound like the originals.

They're afraid that by posting comparisons, potential customers would recognize the differences as well and wouldn't buy so easily into the usual "faithful analog emulation" marketing gibberish.

(Just a general observation. Not talking about Cherry Audio here. At $25, I couldn't care less how close it sounds to the original, as long as it sounds great.)
Well, it's the same... but different. And it sounds amazing! :tu:

What I’ve found with the arturia emulations, especially their earlier ones, is that they sound much better with some tweaked external EQ. Like a lot of their CS-80 presets sound harsh, but add a judicious bit of low pass filter and bump the lows and mids a tad and some of them become great, especially some of the more complex pads. I haven’t played with the Arturia 2600 much tbh as their Modular always seemed more fun to play with.

In lieu of the equipment being broken/defective, I think the 'technical term' is "user error".

You'll have lots more resonance in 12dB mode now.
Now if only you could bring that fix over to the Voltage “SynthVoice”, “SynthVoiceFilter” and Cherry’s standard Filter modules…I’d be a happy camper. The perceptible amount of resonance currently available in 12dB mode in those units is barely audible.

I disagree.
