there were two guys behind the program, which was started as a university project, is my understanding. If they decided to sell, or if the university had say over the project, it could be sold. Other then that, the details of the deal have been sealed, and kept from public for now. eventually it will come out.

Remember that telemetry it's gonna start on version 3.0.3. So, you can stay with 3.0.2 without worrying about your privacy.

AFAIK it is spyware free.
