I picked up LX-24; I really like the sound. I wouldn't consider it a good alternative for PCM Random Hall. It's too bad Lexicon is neglecting the native PCM plugins. It makes me feel better about never purchasing them, but it's too bad.

Keep in mind that the Lexicon PCM Reverb is based on the PCM 96, not the PCM 90/91. From what I recall, the 90/91 was based on the 480, while the 96 was something new entirely.
THIS MUSIC HAS BEEN MIXED TO BE PLAYED LOUD SO TURN IT UP

Essential absolutely uses the RHall algo. Relab has confirmed this at Gearpace.keyman_sam wrote: Sun Aug 20, 2023 2:49 pmThanks but I thought I read somewhere that essential contained the Random Hall algorithm but not labelled as such. Perhaps I'm mistaken.
It’s just not configurable like the full fat version.

originally posted to refute Random Hall being in Essential.
I found a post from Relab spokesperson specifically saying it was not in Essential.
After being called out by a Gearspace member they then went and checked directly with the devs, and found Random Hall IS in Essential.

I’m confused now. Is it in essential or are they just saying it is?

Thanks for confirming! Indeed, this is great news for us essentials owners.Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Sat Aug 26, 2023 6:20 pmAnd that Gearspace user who got them to correct that was me.bk wrote: Sat Aug 26, 2023 6:07 pm After being called out by a Gearspace member they then went and checked directly with the devs, and found Random Hall IS in Essential.![]()

There's a rmx emuaudiouser720 wrote: Sun Aug 13, 2023 8:28 pmYou described it well. The thing is a like character reverbs. I do synth music so I find them more gratifying.jamcat wrote: Sun Aug 13, 2023 8:02 pm The 224 and the 480 are very different. The 224 is going to to give you that early ‘80s artificial chorused reverb. It’s very much an “effect.”
The 480 gives you the infamous Lexicon Random Hall, which is much more realistic and transparent. The PCM 90/91 Random Hall is derived from the 480.
Don’t forget that UAD also has the 224. It’s “official” Lexicon, native (Spark), and uses iLok (Cloud). The UAD 480 is still DSP only at the moment, but the 224 is not.
The LX480 is very useful, but not particularly inspiring. I also have some AMS RMX impulse responses which I find more interesting on synths. I wonder if the 480l got its reputation because of vocal music.

Built upon doesnt mean its the same. Its just the base but it can sound different.Etienne1973 wrote: Sat Aug 26, 2023 9:27 pmLX480 Essentials plugin features 4 basic modes - Fat Plate, Medium Hall, Small Ambience and Large Wood Room.audiouser720 wrote: Sat Aug 26, 2023 8:44 pmI’m confused now. The LX480 Essentials presets are also in the full version (LX480 Complete), so you can check yourself which algorithms they are using, if you can't take other people's, including the developer's, word for it.Lbdunequest wrote: Sat Nov 18, 2023 6:17 am Built upon doesnt mean its the same. The presets should sound identical in each version (assuming the global/output parameters in Complete are set to the same values as implicit in Essentials, of course) so it would be proof the algorithms aren't "different" between the two.
Let us know what you find, if it's different to our existing understanding.

Definitions of build upon. verb. be based on; of theories and claims, for example. synonyms: build on, repose on, rest on.
Developer said Built upon, he did not said its the same. Not going to waste the time downloading installing ect when developer said Built upon which means what exactly says. To conclude its not the same, developer said that.phrasal verb. base something on/upon something. [usually passive] to use an idea, a fact, a situation, etc. as the point from which something can be developed.

You're reading into it too much and because of that, you're drawing the wrong conclusion. It's a cut down version of the RandomHall algorithm. The only difference is fewer parameters and other params are kind of hard-coded behind the scenes in Essentials. Presets made in LX480 Essentials will open the LX480 plugin and sound the same. You may not be interested, that's up to you, but you're hyper focusing in the phrase "built upon" or whatever when the person who posted that certainly didn't give it anywhere near as much thought. These are human being writing on forums. Sometimes we don't always chose the most accurate words that no one will ever misinterpret.Lbdunequest wrote: Sat Nov 18, 2023 8:07 pm Developer said Built upon, he did not said its the same.
