Wow there's some REALLY nice stuff you all posted. Lotta talent.

Ancient Ghosts....damn...really cool.
Bounce me....Great mix, great vocals, no cheese to me
Melody Man's "Connected" ...Wheew. The tune's great but that opening guitar makes my mouth water.
Mehpit Blue's Come...Very cool.

So is there a lot of outboard gear goin' in, or are Tracktions pluggins and effects responsible for the 'Verbs, phasers, compression etc.

Specifically I'm curious about ....

Jen's vocal morph thing...vocoder w/ synth?

I'm new here and haven't done any work with Tracktion, but because of what I've read (and heard now) here and learned from playin w/ the T1 Demo, I'm well on my way to committing when T2 comes out. Our next CD will likely be a Tracktion product in cahoots with a VS1880 if T2 is ready within the next 6 weeks or so.

I won't bother shamelessly pluggin our first CD cause its not at all about Tracktion....yet

The acoustic guitar is recorded with a Samson C03 condenser microphone, which is recorded with a little compression through my Joemeek VC6q (fast attack, fast release, ratio 3:1). Effects are Classic Chorus and Classic Compressor. That's all!

The "hard" guitarsound is made in a hardware amp-modeller called the J-station, which isn't available anymore. You can buy one on ebay, i got mine from there too. I record two tracks at a time, one directly from the J-Station into my soundcard and the other through the J-Station and my Joemeek VC6q for the compression.

Thanks for the compliments on the song.

The drums were done with Reason using the brush kit that comes with the Reason Drum Kit Refill. I also used the midi files that came with the drum kit refill to program the drum pattern. The midi files were created by Propellerhead by recording actual drummers playing to give it a realistic feel.

Recording actual drums is one of the more difficult things to do. The drummer in the band I'm in has a Roland Virtual electronic drum set. The output of each individual drum is sent to a separate track in the recording program. This makes it easier when it comes to mixing. He also uses a couple of regular cymbals, so two mikes are placed near the cymbals, one to the left of the set and one to right to catch cymbal crashes.

You also asked earlier about effects being used in Tracktion. Except for guitar, where I use a PodXT, I really totally rely on plug-ins. I like the classic series of plug-ins, which are free, for handling eq, compression, reverb and chorus effects. I will sometimes use Final Mix as well to add a bit of polish to the overall sound.

Started just as an attempt to record audio with Tracktion and finished as a tune. Might be a bit cheesy

but at least I got it finished. Which is something I don't achieve very often these days

Thanks Jens! Been thinking this over the whole day, and as cliched that advice may be, it's true and good.

Besides other, non-musical reasons (such as general identity problem (a daytime suit & restoftime hippie ), living together with my love (no more artistically inspiring moments of desperate loneliness, and no more late-night noodlings!) and having a major freetime project) I've been wasting my time trying to make the same music as others!

Rather simple, when I think about it. Making the usual things is easy, I'm pretty good at synth&sound programming general so my tunes tend to sound good, but I've most probably lost interest in them before they are finished because they lack a part of my "soul".

Writing/talking something out loud sometimes helps out a lot. I'm going to pursue my oldest ambitions.

listened to this again today and realized that I forgot to cemment about it...

it's a fantastic beautyful&groovy track - it is indeed hard to categorize but I hear jazz influences as well as rock and funk... - all in all I'd say it is very good instrumental pop.

I took it down to re-use the space: it was only a rough mix anyway.. I'll maybe put something more finished up when I get home in about 1/2 an hour.
