Well as you can see fantastic turnout this time! 75 tracks is a new OSC record, beating the old at 65 tracks held by OSC 52: Podolski. Some stonking tracks too.
And cheers for all the nice comments, good to see people enjoying the challenge and community.

Wish I could have joined but I didn't know until it was already to late to start making a track. I think I have carefully listened to around 30 tracks at the moment, so I have another 45 to go. Awesome stuff this month, some amazing tracks from OSC regulars, but also great work from people that I don't think competed before.
Awesome!
Awesome!
Music... life would be boring without it.

Yeah, I think this was by far the best OSC to date
Lots of new participants, but the overall quality of the submitted songs is through the roof, man
They may be new to OSC, but they sure know what they're doing
I'm still excited, even after voting and all

It's been a thrill to make my OSC debut in such a special edition.
I'd like to congratulate all the contestants: it was really, really hard to evaluate and qualify the entries: the level was really, really high.
Most of all, it has been a really plesant time, listening to all those great entries, making comments and, specially, receiving so many good advices about what I should do to improve here and there.
I'm kinda new on KVR, but even this short span of time was enough to realize this is really a special community. I haven't been on any kind of forums for, I don't know, almost 5 years, tired of all those flame wars, trolling and so on. Of course those unpleasant things also happen on KVR but, overall, I'm really delighted with the good vibes and comradery present most of the time.
Hope to meet you all again on future OSC editions!
PS: And Irion: about what you've mentioned on the voting topic regarding on mini-reviews, feel free to comment about positive and negative aspects. Anything that might be helpful to improve is always welcome.

This has been my first OSC too (and I'm pretty new to the whole forum thing also)
I must say its been a fantastic experience, much more so than I could have expected. Everyone's so friendly and helpful. Feels like I've found a community of like minded people who share my interest.
(instead of locking myself away doing something my friends and family just don't seem to understand or relate to
.)
It's great guys - just try keeping me away from future OSCs!

With the risk of complicating OSC a bit more...I have a suggestion: how about a special little something awarded to the best preset creator for the OSC synth, and from all submissions creating a KVR preset bank?
Some of the OSC synths could benefit from an extended preset pool since some have just a handful of stock sounds, so IMO it would be a win-win situation 'cause sometimes ppl don't have the time to finish a full song, but they end up with a bunch of custom presets anyway - so they might still win something, plus will keep ppl motivated to continue supporting that instrument even after OSC ends.
Just thinking out loud

It's a nice idea. However, although I'm going to upload my patches for CM-101, I really doubt it that there are a lot of folks waiting for new patches for a pretty limited synth that's over a decade old nowidfpower wrote:Some of the OSC synths could benefit from an extended preset pool since some have just a handful of stock sounds, so IMO it would be a win-win situation
Although I'm pretty sure that piano sound will re-emerge in some of my future tracks

Well I frequently go through all the instruments I've previously ditched - and in my case one of the main reasons for not using a synth for ex is the lack of well stacked preset banks. Some folks really enjoy learning a VSTi in and out and tweaking their own sounds - I use most of them just as additional preset banks. So for guys like me, those presets are gold
I always try to see the other side of the coin. Yes, OSC is about creativity and pushing both the instrument's and your own limits, but on the other hand, we can have OSCs because someone was generous enough to create a free instrument. I am a strong believer in the "give & take" philosophy, so why not trying to give the devs' a little help by providing them with fresh presets (which maybe they wouldn't be able to get or make on their own)
For the record, I am not a preset creator

Surely every synth benefits from a bigger series of (quality) presets and I believe too in the "give and take" philosophy, but imo then it should be a separate "special little something", 'cause otherwise it would be ok only for the ones who prefer preset creation rather than making a whole special tune. A tune works thanks to many other different aspects: melody, harmony, rhythms, etc. not just on presets of course. So... then there should be more "special little something"s awarded to the best of these components too to be democratically equal in importance. Personally, when I buy a synth, I take a listen to the demo songs too, not just to the presets, since it's relevant to hear what can be done as a "production".idfpower wrote:With the risk of complicating OSC a bit more...I have a suggestion: how about a special little something awarded to the best preset creator for the OSC synth, and from all submissions creating a KVR preset bank?

Well yeah, the preset contest, although based on the same monthly OSC synth should be something different from the actual OSC - sorry if I haven't made that aspect clear.

A single preset or batch/bank? They would then have to be submitted together with track I suppose? We can anyway include this suggestion as a point in the next general rules poll (coming soon).
About presets generally, there has since a recent discussion about it been more people uploading (at KVR, like here for example) which is of course good.

Haha. No not really. It's assembled in SE and i didn't code the osc or the filter so.... But i'm in need of some presets before i "launch" it ( wink wink ). It's called MAP-1 and i tried to make a synth-1 contender ( note i said tryz.prime wrote:That is awesome! Any beta?Alix Cooper wrote:I was busy creating my first soft synth.

Manage to get a retweet about the osc comp. from computer music this morning, so with a bit of luck everyone will pick up more plays, followers and more ppl to enjoy this comp. in future as much as I did.
