I will triple-check the 64-bit, Crossgrade/Upgrade User Area page, and transfer/resale questions during business hours (when others are in the office to verify).

Just be clear.. my 64 bit statement was based on your post, Peter in the T-Racks forum. About middle of the way through:
http://cgi.ikmultimedia.com/ikforum/vie ... 13&t=14225
Will T-RackS 5 work on 32-bit systems?
No, T-RackS 5 is 64-bit only.
I just wanted to be sure that the people who read this thread here understood that as well

I have T-Racks 4 ("TR4") and all the individual plugins (bought individually over the years, all now in v4).
I've been deciding between either the basic $99 TR5 Upgrade, or the $199 TR5 Max Upgrade. I have plenty of Jam Points, so the basic TR5 Upgrade would cost $70 and the TR5 Max Upgrade would cost $140—that's double the price of the basic TR5 Upgrade, and would cost $70 more than the basic TR5 Upgrade. So that's the monetary cost difference between the basic TR 5 upgrade and the TR5 Max Upgrade.
My understanding from reading all the forums and IK's FAQ Peter posted in their forum (Peter, please correct any of these if not correct):
1. If you get the basic TR5 $99 Upgrade, you only get v5 versions of the plugins that come with it. So you'll end up with v5 versions of only the plugins that come with the basic TR5 $99 Upgrade. You'll then have those v5 versions of the plugins, plus your existing v4 versions of the plugins you already have.
2. Your existing v4 versions of the plugins you already have will look (i.e., GUI), behave (i.e., resizeable) and sound (i.e., use the new TR5 framework's engine for oversampling) regardless of whether the v4 plugins are used as individual plugins in the DAW outside of the TR v5 Shell or if they are used inside the TR v5 Shell.
Based on that, I had decided to just get the basic $99 TR 5 Upgrade, and it seemed totally unnecessary to pay more to get the TR 5 Max Upgrade.
BUT WAIT, WHOA, HOLD ON, I thought, WHAT ABOUT UPDATES???
Here's what I mean—Peter said v4 plugins will no longer be updated, and that one reason to get TR 5 Max Upgrade instead of the basic TR5 Upgrade for us TR4 owners who already have all the plugins, would be to "be future proof" and to have v5 versions of all your TR plugins you now have in v4 (which won't get updated in the future).
So, I'm concerned that if I just buy the basic TR 5 Upgrade, that will "maroon" all my v4 versions of the plugins in terms of any future free updates to the v5 versions of the plugins that may come out in the future.
In other words, since v5 versions only will get free updates, I would not get those free updates for my v4 versions of the plugins.
So that seems to be the "hitch" or "snag" if we just get the basic TR5 Upgrade instead of the TR5 Max Upgrade—our v4 versions of the plugins will work and sound just like the v5 versions of them, BUT our v4 versions will not receive any free updates.
That would really suck if there was a critical necessary update—i.e., one that is REQUIRED to run the plugin due to a computer OS update (Apple's annual OS updates have me worried about things like that). It would also suck if there was a very nice update (in terms of new features, sound improvements, CPU use, etc.).
I would think it would later cost much more than the $70 difference for me (i.e., $70 cost for the $99 basic TR5 Upgrade using my Jam Points vs. the $140 cost for the $199 TR5 Max Upgrade using my Jam Points) to update all my many v4 versions of the plugins to v5 versions in order to get either a critical necessary update or a very nice update (as I've defined those in the paragraph above).
I can't remember, going back to TR3 when I first started using TR, if there's either been a free critical necessary update or very nice update to any of the plugins. The only thing I recall was the free update to the British and White Channel which only changed the initial GUI that was released.
So that's the last dilemma now—do I just get the $99 basic TR5 Upgrade (which might screw me out of later getting free critical necessary updates or very nice updates to the v5 versions of the plugins)? Or do I get the $199 TR5 Max Upgrade (which might end up wasting the $100 price difference if there's no later free critical necessary updates or very nice updates to the v5 plugins)?
Peter, can you please give us some illumination about this for those of us making this decision who already have all the v4 versions of the plugins??

look, guys, i have no idea why do you keep making this so complicated. there are no "v4" or "v5" versions of plugins. if you get e.g. British Channel, you own it. you don't own a "v4 version" of British Channel, you own British Channel, in whichever version of T-Racks it may appear. any current version of T-Racks will allow you to use plugins you already bought.
I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.

It becomes confusing when everyone wants to write what they interpret and you as a new reader see that and suddenly what you thought was perfectly simple now seems like a complete mess especially since some questions appear to sound valid and unaddressed even if they sound unlikely.Saukar30 wrote:I 2nd that emotionBurillo wrote:look, guys, i have no idea why do you keep making this so complicated.
Some of us also don't know what we qualify for and Peter has redirected us to check our user area which doesn't show an upgrade path to TRS5, but yet like another forum member, in my user area it shows older TRS upgrades that for me seem to suggest I must have spent over $99 previously... Soooo I guess I qualify, but then why isn't TRS5 upgrade available in my user area?
These are always the messiest of product rollouts and I can't tell if it's intentional for marketing reasons (this thread continually gets bumped) or do they really not get that this could be a bit more clear to addresss the many ways in which customers have bought their products over the years.
I like the new standalone and may come back to using/buying IK stuff with this but hope they can better clear up this. Maybe when they do, they can close this thread and start fresh?

Pretty much everything you wrote after the quote is incorrect. As pointed out, if you own a T-Racks module/plugin, once you update to T-Racks 5 you'll have the new module/plugin with all the new features. There's no trick to it. You keep what you have, and get the fully functional updated version too.dbender wrote:I have T-Racks 4 ("TR4") and all the individual plugins (bought individually over the years, all now in v4).

Since you already own everything, you'd want to buy the $99 crossgrade. You'd have the same thing that someone who bought T-Racks 5 Max from scratch would have.

OK, I was one of the first to raise the question of why there isn't a TR5 "upgrade". My understanding is that, in fact, there IS a TR5 upgrade (it's the basic TR5), but, because IK decided to make a pre-launch price very aggressive, they kind of "opened" the upgrade, as a basic pack, to everybody.elxsound wrote: It becomes confusing when everyone wants to write what they interpret and you as a new reader see that and suddenly what you thought was perfectly simple now seems like a complete mess especially since some questions appear to sound valid and unaddressed even if they sound unlikely.![]()

So, anyone that has ANY T-Racks plug-in can "upgrade" ALL their plug-ins to v5 (which, as was already explained, is basically a new GUI with some improvements on the audio engine essentially for those plug-ins that use oversampling), and, with that "upgrade" they receive four new plug-ins (which, for 100 euros, is not bad). You can even get a discount of 30%, provided you have enough Jam Points (30 euros, at least).
Those who do not have ALL the plug-ins, but have spent more than 99 euros in the past (even if not in T-Racks products, but anything else IK, like Amplitube, Sample Tank, whatever), can even go for T-Racks MAX for just 200 euros (with the possibility to get also 30% discount, as long as they have at least 60 euros in Jam Points.
So, for T-Racks users, the "upgrade-that-is-not-called-upgrade" is not bad. BUT for new users it's awesome. That's why I (and I'm sure some others) felt a little pissed, because we got the sensation that we were being treated as "non-existant", as ghosts.
Anyway, I got over it, and I already decided that I will buy T-Racks 5. The price is fair, IMO, although I am not getting the great bargain that others can get (those that don't have T-Racks at all, or just have a small pack of plug-ins, and will now take the jump to T-Racks MAX).
BTW - WE will still be able to use T-Racks 4 and all the plug-ins as v4, since v5 will be a new separate product. So, we will end with ALL plug-ins in two versions.
But since every T-Racks 5 update in the future will update EVERYTHING that is in there. the v5 (so to spreak) plug-ins are safe to go for the future.
My two cents

Will the Classic Clipper, Opto, 670 etc get oversampling?

I've read this elsewhere as well. What I'm curious about is what this will look like when, for example, one wishes to add an insert effect in Cubase. Will each of the duplicates be listed twice? If so, how will we identify which is which? Peter, any inside info on this point?fmr wrote:BTW - WE will still be able to use T-Racks 4 and all the plug-ins as v4, since v5 will be a new separate product. I imagine that, say, the Classic Eq, will be listed as
T-RackS 5 Classic EQ (or something similar)
and
T-RackS CS Classic EQ
(and TRackS3 Classic EQ if you still have that installed
)
They are separate plug-in files on disc, with, I would think, different VST ids.

Confirmed: T-RackS 5 is 64-bit only.
Please check your IK User Area "Crossgrade/Upgrade" section now and you should see the T-RackS 5 MAX Upgrade there if you qualify. Since it was tagged as a pre-order in the system it wasn't showing up there, but should be now. If you feel you qualify and still don't see it there, please do let me know via PM with your IK username and I'll have it looked into.
