I used to have to dig through the vst's for various compression tasks, A/B, compare...etc...Now with Presswerk it's all there. Need an 1176 to slam some drums? It's there. A little gentle LA for some bass? Got it. Fairchild anyone? Sure, I love the deep dive main interface, and when I have the time to tweak and get surgical, I love the main view, but I agree with a previous poster that the other views are like "old friends", easy to get quick, predictable, great sounding results. Bravo, great job!
Thank you so much!

Unfortunately though there were so many problems with the vintage views, we're currently in the process of taking them out. We need to improve the whole system at a later date, so Presswerk will initially be released without any alternative views. We have however greatly improved the usability and we'll bring the concept of alternative views back next year (in a free update, of course).

Darn, missed the survey.

For two weeks, every day we thought it was that day. But then we find another reason to postpone it until the next day.

Still, we're getting there :)

Extensive testing vs. DMG Compassion coming up in my life :)

I would love to know your impression of a thorough COMPassion/Presswerk comparison.
I have been doing this myself. So far I am able to get a lot of similar sounds.
However, I noticed that COMPassion really has a nice bass/kick drm sound that I was unable to replicate on Presswerk. It could be my inexperience or that it is not possible. I do wish for slightly more tweakage parameters in Presswerk. Interesting enough, I was able to replicate the awesome bass/kick sounds with KUSH UBK Pretty closely. I would love to hear others' impressions though....

That's been my assessment so far.
However, COMPassion and UBK-1 are completely different concepts than Presswerk. I think we're better off comparing Presswerk to things like IKMultimedia T-Racks White2a, Black76 and VC670... among all the other classic emulations out there.

b) being forced to funk with Cubase's routing in order to get sidechain compression (if available) working...
This bothers me too, especially with a dynamics processor where sidechaining from other tracks is very common. I suppose it's why this hasn't had much relevance for me with U-he products till now. I understand U-he's VST3 framework is in revision, but it's a little disquieting not to have it mentioned at all.

But otherwise, I'm very imPresswerked! :tu:
Would some kind soul please remind me how to route external sidechains to non-VST3 inserts in Cubase (as would be the case here)? I have other dynamics processors that are VST3, but I kinda like the looks and sound of Presswerk. I'm on the fence.

Bummer! ...however, I think most will agree that it is honorable to do it right, as you guys have always been known to do. I was really juiced about the vintage views because I was able to immediately get satisfaction with my limited skills. Knowing that they will reappear later is good news. Still on the fence, but leaning towards Berlin.

that's why today was the right moment to finally buy it at pre-release price
(instead of go on waiting the new beta release to do that).
and before the coupon discount exhausts ;)
very impressed by the sound with synth basses of this compressor...
by the way, no big deal about loosing the simple views: their parameter changes were a bit confusing effectively; it's better to have some start preset instead of them.
I liked a lot the chance to assign all knobs to CCs (other brand compressors don't allow it) and to control them in real time with my midi controller: you can really do a hell of a mess with dynamic sound variations on bass lines. :)
great job U-he! as always. :D
We are the true makers of our destiny.

I am curious...why would you say COMPassion is a different concept than Presswerk? It seems that they were both designed to be a tool box for compressors.

I have been eyeing COMPassion for quite a long time but I have been unable to make the purchase. But now that Presswerk is out I wanted to demo them side by side but I am still wanting COMPassion. However, a $25 coupon and intro price for Presswerk is extremely tempting. But something about the sounds of COMPassion are really nice! I don't necessarily like the GUI of COMPassion, and the tweakability is sometimes mind bending in a not so good way. I love U He and I support them...but on this COMPassion vs Presswerk I am undecided....that is why I am asking to get feedback on this comparison for those that may have owned COMPassion for some time.

In the end I would rather purchase the one I want vs just on price alone. I also don't see a huge point in having both. I also just got Slate VMR which has some awesome analog style sounds...

I am also curious if Urs and team has any plans to develope the concept of Presswerk further...more parameters, transient design, etc...

I am also curious how people feel presswerk compares to compassion

Yo,

We've been sweating blood and tears. A new public beta is imminent, and we think that it's much better despite the lack of "vintage views".

I'm switching this topic to "normal" and a new sticky will be up in a few minutes :)

Cheers,

- Urs
