When I opened my UA Connect, it's showing the LA-2A as "Demo Available" with a "START DEMO" button.

Is this normal?

Edit: I Restarted UA Connect, and the "START DEMO" button now said "ACTIVATE LICENSE"

No, not normal

Do you have it licensed via iLok? If it’s a cloud session, then make sure the session started.

Yours is the full version, with 3 separate compressors (all different sounding) and full controls. The free version is only 1 of the compressors and is missing controls.

Yeah, without the R37 side-chain pre-emphasis control, the UAD Silver LA-2A is pretty much the same as IK Multimedia's TR5 White 2A.

It's a bit odd that Universal Audio didn't put the LA-2A Collection on sale, but then devalued it by giving away this almost full version for free. Perhaps this is leading up to a sale or "upgrade" offer just in time for Black Friday?

Their recent free compressor offer is a sad joke. They did not even add a simple post-gain compensation knob to their free version. This is literally 10 lines of code, including adding the gui element. If a company behaves this greedy and overrates their own work, something is seriously wrong.

In return you have to install their proprietary installer app, which can transmit any private data from your system plus your ilok data to their servers. Only a security specialist / network analyst could give a detailed answer here. Then you have to agree to over 10 pages of contract.

So you get barely anything, a single pre-gain knob running into their “magic” emulation algorithm, which was already done like 20 times in a better way, and in return you give them all your personal data and a lifetime abo for spam mails.

This is one of the worst behaviors i have seen. I want you to delete all my data, uad.

The free LA-2A doesn't support iLok Cloud - it's dongle and machine authorisations only.

There are already upgrade offers. You can upgrade from the free LA-2A to the Mix Edition, which is almost all the native plugins they do, for about $200... or to Essentials for about $50.
