I swear, this won't stop until we own everything :dog:
Thank you!!! I was waiting for the sale of tape echo and chorus.
I think I can get IK Tape 80 if I buy it now?
It's a good deal because I remember IK 80's sound so good
I like Valhalla Delay and the Softube tape delay better than the UAD one. Also, Korneff's Echoleffe kicks both their asses when it comes to tape (to me) - but it's a different sound.

The Audiority Chorus Ensembler is also better than UAD.

Just because something is UAD doesn't mean it's the best (but, from the native plugins so far, it does mean it'll at least be good).
200% agree! There are better options when listening individually or finding the correct emulation.
But when I used the spark, the chorus and delay of the UAD just matched well.
I had a similar experience with Valhalla Delay and Echoboy.
Valhalla Delay is really cool and makes the best sound, but Echoboy suits my song the best, so I bought Echoboy.
But I had a really good experience with Korneff's AIP, so I'll check it out again. Thank you!

I listened to UAD Oxide and Studer 800 compared to VTM by Slate (2" 16 track/FG9/30ips) and even with multiple instances it's really hard to hear a difference. DSP consumption is similar for all plugins. Oxide has a stronger bump in the sub-bass area, but can you really hear it? Maybe someone has completely different experiences?

Post

Oxide and Studer aren’t UA’s best tapes, IMO. Ampex is on another level.

Post

Hmm... Oxide seems to me to be more of an "easy to use" Studer that is tuned to be more audible? Directly in a blind test I can already hear the Oxide but in the direct mix I don't find it better than e.g. VTM (which surprised me a bit).
Ampex is unfortunately not yet available natively and it shouldn't run on my old UAD1 (or requires 2 cards - for one running instance :hihi: ).

LA-2A for free... Too good to be true...

Post

UA is trying very hard to promote the UAD platform and especially the native plugins. I'm curious to see what else is coming. I only know the old LA2A of the UAD1 and it wasn't very good, only the "MK2" versions for the UAD2 are supposed to be significantly better. Probably even better than the Waves CLA-2A?

UA, via UADForums: "We're expecting hundreds of thousands of new users coming into the ecosystem."

...which gives you an idea of the third-party native plugin market.

Note for LA-2A collection owners...this is a new plug-in not included in the LA-2A Collection.

Post

Is this the newer "Silver Line" LA2A or a completely different emulation?

Post

Can already notice it lacks a mix knob and a high pass filter.

But you also don't need it, as the new one is the LA-2A Silver MKII, with a fixed emphasis knob, and no mix knob (and a slightly different GUI panel). In short, the Silver one in the LA-2A Collection is a (small) superset of the free one. The free one doesn't add anything, in other words, and is unnecessary.

But if you don't have the LA-2A MKII, it's worth picking up, unless you have an iLok allergy.

Silver.

i sadly didnt invest too much time i had only 1 day left with the sale last week and tested the comps but i could hear a big difference to pro-c. i nearly matched the settings on my drum bus and single comps. i didnt feel/heard any uad magic so far but maybe i just didnt test well enough.

The Silver is the best of the 3 in the Collection, IMO. Also, I never tweak the emphasis and mix knobs because it’s awesome the way it is.

Post

I don't need a mix or emphasis function either. Ok, the bundle is not very expensive, but it would still be interesting to see if UA offers this free version as a single plugin in the future. That would be ideal as a $40 plugin to bring more people to the platform.
