I like the results going through Tonex, PwrCabs into a FMR RNC 1773.

Thanks, I should have read the all of the posts regarding A5 Max.

I've got a refund on the way after contacting support, thanks IKM.

It's quite the deal. I caved so as not to regret it later. The path seems to be:
>AT5 Max $99 (use your JamPoints here)
>>TONEX $49 (no JamPoints due to crossgrade code)
>>>TONEX Max $100 (no JamPoints due to upgrade code)
for a total of $248 minus JamPoints.

I'm still getting to know it but I have to say I find TONEX to be a bit more reliably good off the bat than TH-U's rig captures, which tend to have a few duds or require some tweaking (to be fair there are a lot more captures per amp too). But TH-U is a lot more flexible to use, because the rig player is just another device in the signal chain with all the information right where you need it. You can turn off the cab section at the push of a button and use it with the quad-IR Supercab module, or browse just the preamps while locking the cab section. It just integrates super smoothly with TH-U. The dials in the Overloud Rig Player also seem to have a much more reliable effect on the sound.

As already mentioned in this thread, TONEX integration with AT5 is currently very rudimentary or confusing: To decativate the TONEX cab in AT5 you need to click on the little knob icon on the top right of the TONEX module, but you can only deactivate it, not change it. You can only change full presets, which is done in the main view. The TONEX Pedal module however has an "Edit" button that allows you to change the preset (it confusingly can't be changed in the main view). This is all surprisingly half-baked. Why doesn't it all just look and work like the already rather spartan TONEX GUI?

The preamp and cab sections in TH-U are also very descriptive on their own and I find the 'creative' naming in TONEX to be annoying and cumbersome. If I want to swap in a "Bogner 412" (I assume that's an Ubercab) on a capture I need to know that it's named "Third Lane" after the preset it's part of and that's the only place I get any specifics about the capture. TH-U Rigplayer cabs will say "Uber 4x12 V30 SM57 + R121" right in the browser and have a selection of mic combinations to boot. Not perfect, but it works. TONEX doesn't seem to really want you to do this kind of amp/cab swapping. It can be done, but you're pretty much flying blind.

The fact that you can capture your own rig is brilliant though and I may try that at some point. I do worry that a few years down the road we'll have so many captures that the utility of the crowd sourcing may be neutered. There already are some highly dubious captures in there now and this will only get worse (e.g. there's a Diezel VH4 captured from the Valeton GP-100 where I honestly wonder what the perceived added value is).

So overall I feel the technology is very impressive but the tool still has a ways to go and I'm sticking with TH-U as my go-to for now, despite my hatred of their hyper-skeuomorphic GUI. If IK can make this work seamlessly with AT5 it will really knock it out of the park, but as it stands, IMO it's not enough of a reason to leave the equally impressive competition, unless you're a tone nerd.

Yes, that naming convention is like something from Mars, and should be dealt with ASAP, but I doubt it will.

The more you use TONEX either on its own or within Amplitube5, like everything it becomes easier, not to say the GUI/UX doesn't need attention, but it is functional.

I wish all captures from Kemper, Fractal etc etc, were banned from ToneNET, either that or forced to be clearly marked or segregated and put in their own section, which would be hard as it would rely on people's honesty.

When it comes down purely to tone, TONEX is on top.

I hope you're wrong. I mean it could be adressed somewhat by showing more info about the preset in all views. Right now only the main table view gives you any info at all (and some is missing there too and only shows in the 'Tone Model Info' panel). I mean "Mix Cutter"? "Hybrid Blizzard"? "To the Basement"? "Dirty Hills"? How do they expect people to sensibly use that kind of preset.

There are also still UI bugs like the 'Tone Model Info' not changing when you manually change the amp model (it only changes if you click on a new preset). That too really needs two panels though, one for the amp and one for the cab/mic section. I'm confident this will be fixed eventually though.

Anyway, yeah, good tones, so we'll see where this goes.

HI, has anyone who has an Amplitube 5 Max licence tried to buy the Tonex for the $49 special over the last two days?
It adds a coupon code in my cart when I try to do so to reduce the cost from $149 to $49 but when I do try to apply coupon it says Invalid Coupon.
thanks in advance.

I just made my first 'real' attempt at setting up a rig in Amplitube. Chose a Tonex Twin Reverb, Sunset Room, then a Sunset Spring reverb inserted onnthe channel strip. Added a delay @ slapback-ish timing, then added the Tonex Tube Screamer pedal. Each setting, clean, with delay, with distortion, both, sound great. Went into it with my semi/humbucker Stanford CR-35 AV. Secret sauce is adding a nice room and a nice verb.

That’s a big part of the success of the Universal Audio Ox and amp pedals, as well as Fractal.

Can anybody put a tuner on this thing please? :x

Did this get resolved? If there's a $49 upgrade to Tonex I may just get the Total Max thing.

Hi Yes... it was some glitch that they resolved.
Not sure it is still on though, but can't help to try.

Good to know.

I'm still on AT4 Max. With Jam Points, €70 is an insane price to upgrade to TS 3.5, but I honestly don't really want any of it bar maybe 1 or 2 of the extra AT models. So I'd decided against... until this came along. Of course I can't test the Tonex upgrade until I've bought the TS upgrade.... so...

I ended up upgrading to Tonex Max too... it is the only one I really want to use.. AT5 Max isnt even installed on my systems..
But I really do love their Tonex (Max) product.
It is the best guitar amp simulator I have, and not even close (and I have many if not most of the neural dsp software, the overloud th-u, the s-gear, guitar rig 6, probably others I don't even remember).
Really loving the Tonex... Best Ik Multimedia product ever.. (for me)
