89 USD for a brand new unique spectral processor with nothing like it? Overpriced? I really fail to see so.thecontrolcentre wrote:Yep. Its overpriced imho. I'll pick it up in a sale, or secondhand ...ChamomileShark wrote:+ 20% VAT....sigh

As someone who owns all the other UA plugins, Will there be a further discount / voucher?
At the current price (+ UK tax) I'm in two minds...
I'm enjoying playing with the trial, the CPU isn't too bad, but I noticed my latency shoot up to over 700ms playing with FFT (freaking insane!)

Hi, this is Jeremy from Plugin Alliance. It looks like #thelizard has already answered some of your questions about the SpecOps release, but I thought I should jump in to clear up the sales-ey stuff.
I hope this clears things up!
- You will be able to start SpecOps trials and purchase it when we officially release it, which will be later today.
- There will be a special introductory discount of $89 for the first month of its release. This discount is for everyone.
- There isn’t a specific SpecOps discount for previous Unfiltered Audio customers, but there is of course the monthly customer loyalty voucher, which you can use to get a discount on SpecOps. The values of these vouchers are based on how much money you’ve spent with us, but we don’t release the exact metric that we use.
- If you have spent money with PA in the past and haven’t received a customer loyalty voucher, please contact support!
I hope this clears things up!

Wow, first impression: the rabbit hole of effects. The possibilities boggle the mind.... time to dig into the manual.

FFT effects deal with set block sized windows so depending on the FFT size alas you'll always get that sort of latencyaudiodistortion wrote:I'm enjoying playing with the trial, the CPU isn't too bad, but I noticed my latency shoot up to over 700ms playing with FFT (freaking insane!)
Quick FYI to the unfilteredaudio team - The link to the manual at the bottom of the SpecOps page points to Audio Dent 2 rather than SpecOps

A quick feature request! (right, I know you guys deserve some r&r...). It would really be handy to have some mute/solo buttons next to the effects. Just a small time and click saver...

Thanks! GRM Tools Evolution costs nearly $300 and doesn't even touch the overall capabilities of this plugin. Nor is there any plugins on the market that you can even really compare with it, other than GRM stuff. Unless I missed something along the way!thecontrolcentre wrote:Yep. Its overpriced imho. Just fired up the trial version tho and it's every bit as good as I had hoped. A very special tool, even if it's a bit costly with CPU resources.

Very much enjoyed my inaugural play with this thing!
Any chance of getting (semi) technical descriptions of the window types as a manual addendum? I've noticed the clean window tends to create amplitude modulation artifacts when pitch-shifting, while the Fault 1.0 window seems a lot cleaner there. Guessing the clean window is more 'temporally' clean and it has some kind of phase-aware behaviour causing the modulation - which leads me to the next question - is changing the window doing more than just changing the window here?
Some like flutter are obvious (a sinc-ish or other obviously AMed window?) and you've mentioned that glitch is rectangular, but some comments on the others would be welcome.
Congratulations on the release! I'm off to find my debit card...

$89 is the intro price, which is $107 by the time VAT is added at checkout. Its too much for me YMMV.Soarer wrote:89 USD for a brand new unique spectral processor with nothing like it? Overpriced? For a quick list:
Clean = Blackman-Harris (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Window_fu ... ris_window)
Fault 1.0 = Hamming (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Window_fu ... ing_window)
Leaky = Welch (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Window_fu ... lch_window)
Shiny = Bartlett (Triangle) (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Window_fu ... lar_window)
Flutter = Flat-top (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Window_fu ... top_window)
Glitchy = Rectangle (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Window_fu ... lar_window)
Backwards = Nyquist
Yes, the Flutter/Flat-top window is very sinc-like in shape, so it leads to some additional grain-like sounds. "Glitchy" is ironically the cleanest at neutral settings (since we're doing an overlap-add technique), but it falls apart quickly with the effects. Changing the window doesn't really change much else in the algorithm.
I'll add this to the next manual update. Personally, I chose these names as a way to emphasize that SpecOps is meant to be fun to use. It always seems weird to me that spectral plugins would throw engineering terms at musicians and sound designers. It's not a bad thing, but as a musician who later became an engineer, I remember always being intimidated and overwhelmed by a lot of that. I also wanted to do something like Alchemy for window size. They had settings like "Better time, worse pitch" or something like that. However, we had too many window sizes for similar descriptions.

Ace, thanks!
I really appreciate the move to make the window names 'human readable' actually. Think I may have mentioned earlier in the thread that it feels baffling that nobody thought to do it before. By all means leave it out of the manual if it dilutes the vision!
I was mostly curious as to why 'Fault 1.0' seemed cleaner than 'Clean' for extreme pitch-shifting (octave up is all I tried the comparison with), and honestly, I was expecting you to say there were algorithmic differences there. I'm genuinely shocked there aren't because it means I've been able to hear differences between window types for the first time in my life!
... I don't do much 'real-time' composition, so just bunging 8x overlap on there as a rule made Hamming, Hanning, and Blackman seem indistinguishable to all intents and purposes. But yeah, in all honesty I might not have asked if I realised I was genuinely just hearing window tradeoffs for the first time, not some kind of additional algorithmic voodoo.

100 bucks is not at all overpriced for something that does as much as this plugin (which currently has no direct competition outside of some very neat but not very well supported freeware or some of the more complex modular environments) in such a simple and insanely flexible fashion. I only wish they had incorporated some delay effects in there. Thankfully unfiltered audio has some amazing delay processors which go quite nicely with this thingy.
Don't F**K with Mr. Zero.

Fairly impressed so far. Just the compander module alone has tonnes of scope. Still trying to get a handle on the effects. Great job with the insightful visualisation. Impressed that I can kinda figure out what's happening without it being too watered down.
Would be intrigued in a SC input (for input follower and possibly S&H) and effects based on 2 signals, a la SpectrumWorx or MSpectralDynamics. But even without that, it's fun and/or torturous.

I started a new thread for SpecOps!
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=491358
cron: Yeah, it's pretty crazy how clearly defined each window's signature is with these effects. We tried practically every window on that page along with a few others. At one point, I think the window list was like 15-20 windows. We narrowed it down and eliminated a bunch of windows that sounded very similar.
Ah_Dziz: Thank you!!
