I feel I wasted money by getting a cheap/free DAW then buying plugins then getting one of the mainstream DAWs. I don't need at least a third of the plugins I've paid for, including several PA plugins. Paying 400+ for Live, Bitwig or Studio One would probably have saved me a lot of money. Others probably have more willpower than me thoughsubharmonic wrote: Tue Jun 08, 2021 10:07 am Really appreciate the replies re PA vouchers. Great stuff. I'm still trying to figure out the absolute essentials to get.

Totally get your argument, and I think you are right. When I started some years ago, I was kind of lucky. Coming from an engineering background, I got Reaper and the paid-free Melda bundle, putting the costs well below 100 bucks. Then I picked up the Computer Music stuff, and learning began. In addition to investing a lot of time, I sorted what else I needed and what I didn't. As a consequence, things are pretty settled now.Double Tap wrote: Tue Jun 08, 2021 12:02 pmI feel I wasted money by getting a cheap/free DAW then buying plugins then getting one of the mainstream DAWs. However, I purchased way too much for "extended testing", and I must say Plugin Alliance is not really an investment, but a big black hole for money. I do not say the stuff is bad, there are really good plugins there, but many did not fit me, now cluttering my account as nobody wants them.
As I said, I see software as an investment over several years (money, time, disc space, management efforts etc.), and some investments are good, some others less. I just think this has been a process everyone knows to a different extent.
... willpower, yes, something I definitely have to work on.

I'm contemplating upgrading from Melodyne 4 Editor to Melodyne 5 Studio. This really isn't cheap though, even with the current discount, so I'm wondering if it's worth it. Can I get some input/recommendations from you guys? I think the Sound Editor is the major difference between the Editor and Studio version. Maybe there are cheaper tools on the market doing the same thing as the Melodyne Sound Editor?

It looks like Arturia released FX Collection 2 which now includes 22 plugins instead of 15. Price is 299€ until June 25. I own Fx Collection 1 and my upgrade cost 69€:

While I don't use Arturia FX plugins, surprisingly, the offer for me is only $99.
I own V Collection 7, Pigments 3 and Chorus JUN-6, and I think this is an insane deal by Arturia.

The big difference imho is that you can do editing multitrack (though the sound editor looks cool)... if you’re mostly synths and a vocal track, probably not really worth it, but I had a project where I had to sync a vocal to an offtime guitar... seeing them together helped a lot (warping would be fine for this except there’s no multitrack view... usually you’d just line each against the beat, but he was playing with timing a bit, so not exactly on the beats, it sounded natural, and I didn’t want to lose that)pekadan wrote: Tue Jun 08, 2021 1:00 pm I'm contemplating upgrading from Melodyne 4 Editor to Melodyne 5 Studio. Insane indeed! I own the same as you plus FX 1 and they are asking €49 for the upgrade. That’s for 3 plug-ins vs €99 for 22.LoveEnigma18 wrote: Tue Jun 08, 2021 2:29 pmThanks for sharing!3qO wrote: Tue Jun 08, 2021 2:19 pm It looks like Arturia released FX Collection 2 which now includes 22 plugins instead of 15. Does anyone know if these crossgrades are freely transferrable or if there are any strings attached?SHall1000 wrote: Tue Jun 08, 2021 6:19 pmInsane indeed! Absolute waste of time and energy. Agreed.martinjuenke wrote: Mon Jun 07, 2021 6:22 pmThese magware and giveaways and freebies are most of the time simply a waste of time imo.gerk wrote: Mon Jun 07, 2021 5:52 pmIt's TH-U 1.3.6 with a limited amount of devices. Is there anyone out there already owning the mag who can tell how crippled the included version is?
Especially interested in if you can use the expansion packs (Rig Libraries) in the Beats version ?
