Yep, I did mean to say anti-aliased, my bad. To be perfectly anti-aliased, the lowpass filter should keep freqencies up to 20 kHz for "all" notes. As shown by Adam's screenshot, it doesn't seem that Sylenth1 is doing this. But then again, I have only seen a few synths that do this perfectly, Thor, Minimonsta and a few more.

e.g. middle C goes up to 20 kHz and sounds really nice and crisp, F above middle C goes up to around 16 kHz which sounds more dull, A above middle C once again goes up to 20 kHz, high C (one octave above middle C) goes up to around 17 kHz and sounds a bit dull.

Using an overlay with Thor's FFT response, Thor always produces frequencies up to 20 kHz regardless of the note, and thus, it always sounds crisp.

I'll let Adam elaborate on this more since I use Thor as my master synth anyway

Sylenth1 still sounds amazing, and my post was not meant to be negative. Just trying to give constructive feedback that might help you improve your synth even further. If you add hard sync, fm, pwm and ringmod, I'll most likely be buying this synth too

Technically that isn't entirely true. A signal is perfectly anti-aliased as long as the cutoff frequency is below half of the sampling rate. In practise it's virtually impossible to implement a perfect anti-aliasing filter that keeps all frequencies unattenuated up to exactly half the sampling rate and completely removes anything above it. Unless you throw in huge amounts of processing power of course.

I don't have Thor so I can't test your claims about it, but if a synth doesn't throw away frequencies below Nyquist, that does NOT imply that it sounds good! Usually that means it does NOT do a good job at anti-aliasing and you will hear aliasing artifacts, although the FFT picture may look perfectly nice at first sight.

Firstly, most people don't hear much above 16 kHz anyway, especially if those frequencies are masked by all the frequency components just below it. Secondly, like I said before, this effect scales with the sampling rate. You did your testing on a sampling rate of 44.1kHz. Try running Sylenth1 on a higher rate, 96kHz for example. In that case the lowest possible cutoff will probably be about 36 kHz. There is simply no way any human being can hear frequencies that high (not even close)! And if that's still not good enough for you because your dog may still be able to hear it, just run Sylenth1 on 192 kHz sampling rate

By the way, when using any software instrument it's always a good idea to export your final tracks at the highest possible sampling rate and convert it to 44.1kHz afterwards using a high quality wave editor. This reduces the effects of aliasing and anti-aliasing techniques.

Hey, I new with Sylenth1, i bought it two days ago, and after program some sounds my wishlist for it would be:

- Hardsync
- Option for serial filters, because I'd like use different noises (or a new filter with envelope in the effects section)
- More unison voices, maybe 16.

+1 about different noises (more integrated waveforms), also 32 step sequencer, with mini piano roll and MIDI import with possibility to assign it to A or B individually.
