Need to elaborate on that:

Designers: Design will push sales.
Sales persons: Price will kill sales.

It's called "honesty"...

It can help to improve things...

My vote goes to 3, too.

Vojtech, please don't consider the feedback you're getting as "negativity". I think that the people simply care about your products and want them to be as good as possible, both sound-wise and visually. Also, isn't this a good moment to have the people say what they think about the UI? You've always been a developer with an open ear for user input, and I think people really appreciate it. I do, that's for sure.

I like the general direction the UI is going. It's certainly a step forward from the current UI. There's a lot in your screenshot I like very much (e.g. the buttons in the wave window or the modulator buttons on the bottom side), and a couple of things I don't. But those are mostly related to colors and contrast, which isn't that much of a problem as long as it can be changed by the user.

Apparently the UI will be nicely configurable, so in order to make the discussion about borders around sliders yes or no moot, maybe there could be an option to show/hide them?

I'm looking forward to the things to come.

Edit: I know how frustrating criticism can be. Not too long ago I was designing a web site for a company. I thought I had really come up with a great design: nice, modern look, matching the corporate design, fitting for the products they're selling. I was really enthusiastic about it. My customer, however, kept e-mailing me screenshots of web sites with horrible, horrible 90s-esque designs, asking to make their site look more like those. It was really frustrating, not just because they didn't like my hard work, but because for me it was obvious that they didn't know how web sites look today and what visitors are expecting: they were asking me to build a site that the average visitor wouldn't like.

edit: no need for that.

Tricky & paterpeter: Don't worry, I always welcome critics, by that I mean constructive critics and there was a bulk of posts which were everything but constructive. And I of course want to avoid that, because that doesn't get us any closer to the desired output ;).

Anyway summarization:

1) Border-less design is to be tried, I like the ellasi's idea.

2) Fonts are probably chosen as most people voted the same.

3) Colors are completely configurable, so it's not a big deal, screenshots will follow soon.

4) Design of the plugin windows probably won't be changed much, simply because there's not much to change. But let's discuss it in particular:

This is specially targeted to you Tricky, as you have been talking about it, yet I don't see any room for improvement really, at least from the look at the image...

Good idea to separate that into a different thread, keeps things nicely sorted. :tu:

MeldaProduction wrote:Seriously folks? Where did all the negativity come from?

For the record, colors are changeable, completely... So it was only about fonts and getting some feedback. And btw. several people made very positive feedback, so it is as always - everyone likes something else, as expected and as this thread proofs ;).
I don't mean to be an asshat, i'm not flaming or any shit. I own one of your plugins and it's very functional. But in the theme of Melda and GUIs, I will add that the GUIs are a real turn off for me personally. There's already so many controls on most of your plugins, and the frame borders and such just make it all overwhelming. So i choose not to buy any more. Just one point of view from a potential customer. Feedback.

MeldaProduction wrote:ThomasHelzle: True, but you again forget the main thing - there is no good GUI! Everytime some people like it and some don't. And all this thing is about getting feedback and some statistics about, how many people like this one. This thread only proven that people disagree in both the layout and graphical design. It's sad that some people are so negative, thinking that their opinion is the only right one though.
Agree GUI is very personal. Hope I didn't come across as negative, not my intent. Only wanted to express my personal bias. It's all I got. :D

How difficult/horrible/insane would it be to create a configurable GUI where the user could select which parameters (probably the wrong ones) to display on the plugin 'home screen'? You'd have the first plugins to feature the Android chaos look on a PC. :D

Anyhow, your plugins sounds great and perform amazing tasks. That's the important part. The rest is window dressing. Altho, there is an entire industry based on window dressing.
perception: the stuff reality is made of.

Just wanted to say that I find this new "minimal design" interesting. A positive new direction and a good option to have :)
