well you can't add new ones unless you scan... (BTW the scan I wrote about this afternoon is still going on... what makes it worse I can't even leave it going for the how many hours it is unattended because there are always a few programs with dialogs I have to attend to
)

I don't know what the problem is. I have a folder called NEW where I throw in a handful at a time. Then I do scan new or changed, but Tracktion was bogged down before it ever got to that folder. Not sure... BTW still going...

I wish I could help you, Rock.
You need to have less scan time, and more "making kick-ass country and rock songs" time.
If I'm not mistaken, it shouldn't even be going through those other folders at all. It should be checking the date modified and the plug-in ID to see if any of them are new, but that's it. Which leads me to believe (as I believed a while ago and now I've come back to it) that it's not even necessarily a buggy/dodgy VST, but a duplicate VST or one with the same 4-character ID.
Dunno how to isolate or track down, though. I don't know anything about any logs that would tell you at what point in time it gets bogged down, if there are any at all.

This may sound nuts but I wonder if it could have anything to do with the selected sound card...

Troubleshooting PC issues is one thing that pays some of my bills right now, and here's what I'd do - numbered but not necessarily in any certain order.
1) Copy your VSTPlugins folder to somewhere else as a backup. Erase all the plugs in the actual one. Start putting them back in in small groups - .dll's only!! (You can usually map to a data path in the instrument themselves.)
(** When troubleshooting I actually would only do one at a time, then relaunch T2 to see "what does what" - and START WITH THE ONES YOU USE THE MOST AND LET THE OTHERS "STAY" IN THEIR COPIED PLACE until you actually *DO* use them or finish this troubleshooting exercise.)
2) Download "Startup Inspector for Windows" from wwww.windowsstartup.com and eliminate anything running at startup that is obvious "fluffware".
3) GOT RAM? How much? At least 512 MB? I've got dozens of plugs and when I upgraded my P4 2.66G from 512MB to 2GB the speed ov EVERYTHING went from 3x - 12x and a REMARKABLE increase in boot-up speed.
4) Run a spysweeper yet? Go to download.com and download "Spybot Search & Destroy" or "Adaware" and let them do full system scans and BE SURE TO RUN THE UPDATES FIRST.
5) List your PC specs
- CPU - Type & Speed
- RAM - Type & Speed
- HD - Capacity, Type (IDE, EIDE, SATA, etc) and Speed/Buffers.
6) Load up some girly anime and crank some Motley Crue. Oh, wait - that was for me. Never mind.
These tips should get you started. Please state what your system is to start. If this was an auto forum and you say your car is getting 15 MPG I'd ask if you had an SUV or Cooper Mini. What's "good" or "bad" needs the context of the producing environment to have any sort of conclusinve meaning.
Oh, and any 80's metal should do if Motley Crue is temporarily unavailable.
That's all for now, and remember - there's no such thing to the computer as "MUSIC" software - there's just software. So the same troubleshooting tips that work on everything else work wonders on "music"-related software, as well.
Thanks, and have a very good and blessed afternoon,
- Paul

Well I can't do much of anything till this scan ends. I think this is a record. I'm headed out to eat. I don't know how long it's been but I guess around 5 hours now.

If that happened to me I would be at ultra-mega-hyper rage. Maximum rage is only my 4th highest level of rage.Lunch Money wrote:AD80, there's no WAY you'd be angrier at a VST scan than you would be at having someone pin you down and towel-whip your testes with a damp beach towel.
No freakin' WAY, man.
